So, before and after is what you want? here is the last model bike I rode before the Buell 1987 GSXR-750

HA.. Diablo, that is the exact bike I rode prior to my Buell. I had the Blue/White.

Wow.. glad you made it through that crash. I think I remember you talking about what happened.

I had been off bikes for about 12 years before my Buell purchase.}

After my M2, there was my XB:

Come on! I know you've had others before the M2...

Was the red bike (sorry all Japanese bikes look alike to me - especially older UJM/Standard bikes) that you have a framed picture of you on in a similar pose as you on your XR50 below a few years back, your first bike?

Spike XR50

Either way, that picture NEEDS to be posted!

It's just plain classic!

That bike is an '82 Honda Sabre V45. It was my first full-sized bike, but not my first bike. My first street bike (I had a few dirt bikes) was a Yamaha YSR50, followed by a Honda Nighthawk 250, then the Honda Sabre. I'll try to dig up pictures of the others.

Heh. I think everyone that comes to my house asks me about that picture. It's definitely a keeper. My wife came across that pic a few years ago and framed it. I don't think I have an electronic version of it, I'll have to scan it and upload it when I get a chance. In the mean time, here are a few more of the Z50:

The old Sabre picture that 1313 mentioned:

The scan didn't come out as well as I had hoped. I may have to take it to kinkos or something to get a good digital version. I think I was about 16 when this photo was taken. When we bought the bike my dad only rode it up and down the street to see if it was running ok. I had been riding it for about a year before my dad took it out and really opened it up. When he came back from that ride he said if he knew how fast the bike was he would have never let me buy it. 78hp sure felt like a lot back then.

I at one time had 3 sabres. an 82 with a dash like the one pictured and 2 85s with standarxd pod style gages.

Great bikes, v4 so they strike a nice compromise between the v-twin torque and the 4 cylinder revs and HP. Those bikes
were the basis for the interceptors. The only real issue was keeping the carbs in synch. If they came out of synch, and they
did with surprising regularity hp fell off rapidly.

I sold the three of them to buy my third favorite all-time bike: the 84 vf1000f interceptor. It ranks just behind the
gsxr 750, and the top of the list is my current Buell.

Hey Spike !

are those wheelie pics down the same street at different peroids in time, or is the camera angle just the same?

either way, thats a nice old pic that I would be proud of.

They really are great bikes. I'd love it if we had some decent options for a modern V4. I still have that '82 in my garage, but it really needs some attention.

The Z50 pics are all on the same street, right in front of my house. The one 1313 posted is from 2005 when we first moved in, you can see that the houses across the street are still under construction. The later pics with me in leathers are from earlier this year. The Sabre pic was taken in Florida.

Hey Ferris, That 80 something you have the pic of is actually a Yamaha XT. Looks like a 250. The only reason I knew exactly what it was, is that a friend of mine just gave me one that is an 82 XT-250 that looks identical except the paint. Didn't know if you remembered what it was and just thought I would share. Nice rides!

Ferris,

Do you still have the Honda XL 250 in the picture? I'm looking for some parts.
