So guys after years of lurking and a decade of lusting I am finally joining the Buell ownership ranks tomorrow.

I paid the down payment and finalized the loan today. Tomorrow I pick up the check from the bank then I get the bike in the afternoon! So I am getting a red XB12SS. I rode it last Saturday and loved it. With the money I save getting this over an 08 TT I should be able to quickly get a drummer (and ecm and air filter) to get a great sound of of her.

Anyway I am super excited and I doubt I will sleep a wink tonight. Tomorrow will be the longest day ever.

Well I will be sure to inundate the forum with useless and redundant photographs of her tomorrow.

BTW if anyone in the Southern Utah area wouldn't mind showing me some nice rides I would love to hear from you.

Well wish me luck tomorrow! And thanks to everyone who has helped answer dumb questions that I asked through the years. I feel really comfortable buying this bike tomorrow. Mainly because I feel well informed about it thanks to this site and you fellow members. Thanks a ton!

Dude, you are so going to wonder why you waited so long. For real world riding, the XB is hands down one of the best bikes you can get. Have fun and tell us all about it.

I had to wait so long for two reasons. First of all I was eleven when I first saw and decided I wanted a Buell. Second I couldn't really afford one comfortably until now. This is gonna be great. I'm getting a great bike for about $100 a month. Totally manageable for this college student. Down payments make a big difference.

Congratulations.
Listen to what the guys say about wearing the gear, ALL the gear.

Oh, one more thing, watch the front brake, it stops the bike VERY quickly, you might want to set it at one of the lower settings

if this is your first street bike, the best roads are the ones with the fewest cars. after you get a few miles under ya, the best way to find fun roads is to ride around looking for them.

you are going to love the Drummer.
search the forum, you may discover that you wont need the race ECM and filter. I have logged 10k + (s)miles on my Original Drummer with a stock ECM and filter

Congrats Gschuette!

I was wondering if you got the 08 or a left-over 07? If it is the 08, would you mind sharing what your out-the-door price was? I'm curious as I'm looking at the same bike.

Cheers,

Luke

Congrats man!!! took me 3 yrs to pull the trigger and I think the timing was PERFECT!!!! Best bike for the money I think. Plus... you'll probably never pull into the local watering hole and see 4 of the same bikes as yours. (Unless you planned it that way!!!)

...And even then your still in an elite class!

Luke I actually got a left over 06 for a decent price. Not great though. Emotions (gimme gimme) got in the way. Probably could have got a better price but my patience were running thin.

Thanks for the advice on the gear guys but you are preaching to the choir. I have been accumulating gear over the years in anticipation of this day. I have a KBC VR2 helmet, First Gear jacket with a liner for winter, Some Icon pants, Alpinestars gauntlet leather gloves, and Icon Superduty boots. I had it all on when I test rode it and when I was cruising around this afternoon. I'm a member of the atgatt cult.

Anyway the bike is really fun. Lots of torque! It is going to be hard to not skip any classes tomorrow.

I don't know if you noticed but I de-reflectorized it and de-passengerified it. Looks a lot cleaner to me. I will get some better pics this weekend. I have been too busy riding it during the daytime.

Looks AWESOME, Bro!

I'm 43, and this 06 XB9-SX is my first bike (don't count the Blast I had, which i rode for 50mls and realized im TOO big for it at 6-3).

I rode the Lightning over 1400mls so far, thats just "local" riding (within 50ml radius or so) and I am in LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!

....again.

:P

I am modifying the crap out of it and I dont think I'll stop for at least a few more months.

And i agree- wear the gear! I never ride without the: fullface Scorpion; Icon gloves; Icon boots; Icon mesh jacket (or HD leather, now that its cooler); Draggin jeans (or at least reg jeans); etc.

Have FUN and above all: *****RIDE SMART****

I think I need to work with the rear pre-load a little. Well maybe that or the rebound. It feels like the rear end is wandering a little when getting on the throttle out of corners. I now understand what the magazines were complaining about with trail braking. She does stand up if you touch the brakes in the middle of the corner. I need to make sure I get my braking done before the turn. Probably just a Dunlop trait than a flaw with the bike. Great bike though. I am also in love with mine.

Set up your suspension per the manual and start tweaking for your own personal pleasure from there. Swap to Pirellis and *poof* that standing up problem will be gone.

I was going to recommend replacing tires as well... I'm on the Michelin Pilot Power train. I had the Dunlops at first, and the bike was totally different after changing tires. Best mod that was done to the bike was changing the tires!!

Well the rear shock was a little off with all three adjustments. So it is set up according to the manual now. That and both tires were not up to the correct pressures. I set up the suspension and aired up the tires last night. It felt a lot more responsive.

Congrats, I have the same bike, different color and would not trade it for nothing. It takes about 4000 miles to wear in good. She purrs after that.

take your time on the chicken strips. chicken strips look a lot better than a laid down bike and the inside of an ambulance.

bike looks nice, now go water your lawn.

Nice bike! But I'm biased, I've got on 07 sunset Ss and I love it. I see you already made your first aesthetic improvement by removing the reflectors and warning labels, now make an aesthetic and functional improvement by ditching the mickey mouse ears for some bar end mirrors. Voila' , no more blurred images.

It is a rental house so no watered lawns equals no need to buy a lawn mower. Or in other words increased Buell improvement funds.

Also I plan on picking up some bar end mirrors on Monday. The stock ones are useless plus the bikes look more aggressive without the stock mirrors way up in the stratosphere.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys.

bar end mirrors are a huge improvement, unless you like looking at your shoulders in buzzing mirrors. you'll need that increased buell fund, as you have just purchased a blank canvas.
