Any have any experiences/stories on trading in your XB for another model (both at H-D or some other bike shop)?

Just curious if you get a decent amount of value, or if trade-ins work at all (in motorcycle world)

I just had an interesting experience with our closest dealer...here goes

My wife was looking to trade in her Sportster on a Softtail Deluxe, I was going to trade my 9R in on a new Uly, we went to the dealer and he gave us rough prices for our bikes but he had to order our bikes in.

I called him to get an exact price as he was busy the day we were there(30th aniversary), he quoted us $2000 less (for each bike) than he had the first day. He lost the sale of 2 bikes.

Unfortunatly until Buell gets out of the HD shops I won't be buying anymore Buells. Penny found another Softail and bought it yesterday, I was going to buy a GS 1200 BMW from the same dealer till he low balled me on my bike.

Guess I am going to sell privately and go with another brand but will still keep my S2

My local dealer was going to give me $2500 for my 03 with 15000 on it. It is titled as lightning, but I have converted it to a firebolt, completly, wiring harness and brake lines too. I expected the conversion to lower the price a bit, but it didn't really. All I said was OUCH!! I still have her. I don't really want to let her go anyway.

This is why I am keeping my 9. If I want a different bike - HD or Buell - I would assume just to haggle over price, not a trade value. I would rather keep my 9 and use it as a track bike than take it in the a** at the dealership. NTM, that most of us have more $$ in after market installed on our bikes than the our bikes may actually be worth. So if you are going to sell or trade, you need strip the bike and sell the parts separately or find the right buyer who is willing to pay for the upgrades. Either way, you are going to get boned. I think HD has the same problem - but know way near as dramatic as Buell.

I bought my o3 xb9s in aug of o3. In aug of 04 I ask about tradeing for 04 super glide from same salesman he said they would not trade on buells!!I have not been back in that dealer sience and told every one I know to avoid them. Still got the Buell and glad I do.I was just courouis what the Buell was worth a year later. The dealer was Speedway HD in Concord NC. They lost there buell dealership after that. Even HD people I know stay away from them.

I traded in my '05 XB 12S Lightning for an '06 Electra Glide Classic. XB had 3000 miles on it. Same dealer I bought it for 10,495 plus about 800 for the race kit and select seat gave me 9500 for it on trade. Paid MSRP for the Electra, added cruise and Stage 1 Big Bore for an additional 1300 or so. All in all I think got a fair deal. I splurged on the prepaid maintenance, and 84 month warranty.

Hindsight being 20/20, I wished I would have held out for the XB12SS Lightning Long (before I bought the XB12S. Fits me much better. I found on long, hard rides my back would be in bad shape after a bit. The few times I road the XB12SS Long, I loved that. I'm not a big guy, just 5'8" and 200 pounds, but that bike seems to fit me. I liked the bigger fuel capacity, too. Soon as I can, I am going to pick up a Long as well as an 1125R, AND keep my Customized Dyna Wide Glide and Electra Glide Classic. Dealership I work with is Harley-Davidson/Buell of Seattle in Lynwood. Pierre Boileau is very good to me, as is Frank Kai. The parts guys know there stuff, and there mechanics are good.

I know that alot of H-D shops plain suck!!!! But, the lowball thing is all over. Went to my local Ford dealer ( I only buy Ford vehicles and Buell M/Cs) with my 05 F-150 as a trade on a F-250 'Stroke (mildly used). They wanted to give me about 2500.00 less than trade in value for mine and wanted 3500.00 more than retail for their's. I asked why so low on my trade? This puke-bags answer....."We can buy them at the auction all day long for what I offered you." My response, "Then sell your truck at the auction too. I don't want it." He then told me that, "I'm not a not-for-profit organization." I told him to, "Get f---ed." and left...........O.K. my rant is over.

A highly modified bike or car will usually yield less cash if traded in than a stock vehicle. You will do much better selling outright.
