Short rant-
On 8-30 I brought my '07 XB9R to the dealer I purchased my Buell from needing a new tire as I had picked up a puncture earlier that day. Also figured I'd get the wireform and clutch cable fixed under warranty while she was there. Hoped to get her back by the next weekend.
Well. It is now 9-9 and they have yet to have the tire, or the clutch cable. On backorder I am told, MAY ship out on Monday (9-10).

It amazes me that a HD dealer that has (they do not actively sell in my opinion) Buell on the sales floor does not stock tires for a 07 F-Bolt or clutch cable. Nor even the courtesy of a call letting me know they were on backorder. Maybe I should have bought that 1200R instead?

BY the way, I did place a call on the status of my bike on 9-6, tire is shipping out today I was told. Dropped in yesterday to see what was on sale (20% Saturday) and if the tire came in, still on backorder. Huh.

I am used to being treated like the strange Uncle at the party whenever I go in to get parts, but this is really getting old. I now buy online for most stuff.

Plan to get a new Buell in a few years if more of the XBRR engine bits trickle down (1300+cc!!!), but the overall Buell dealer situation has to improve.

Anyone know a HD/Buell dealer in Illinois (I live in Aurora) that actually SELLS and SERVICES Buells?

Okay, not so short rant...

It's a good trek (60 miles) up from you, but I've been happy enuf with my dealership, though like most here, I've come to do whatever I can do by myself (to save money)...

The dealership in Woodstock carries Buell also, but I've no experience with them.

Thanks- yeah Lakeshore seems to have Buell covered pretty well, even have a fella that used to work at the factory selling them- forget his name but he knows his stuff. Would have purchased my 9R from them but they were out and were not getting any additional units. Best Buell shop I have been to around here so far.

I can do all my own wrenching for the most part, the shop manual is worth its weight in gold. Well, almost.

Very unfortunate that it seems most Buell owners on this forum have come to the conclusion that these are excellent rides, but are for the most part self service. If Mr.Buell wants to sell the 1125R to non-motorcyclists (they know who they are...), they will not put up w/this nonsense.
Conquest sales from KTM, Ducati, Aprilla and Guzzi owners will not make the sales #'s I am sure daddy HD is looking to see.
Sorry - hijacked my own thread.

You have options, exercise them, cancel the tire order, get the warranty work done there, get the tire elsewhere. When they ask why, then educate them.

Some shops get it, some don't, some learn, some don't, some improve, some don't, some customers come back for more, some don't.

I live in Rockford, IL, which is where Kegel's is located. It is about an hour from Aurora. Kegel's is OK. They have a couple of decent Buell guys. I haven't had a negative experience with the service dept. They did great job on my frame replacement last winter. Their number is 815-332-7125. There are a couple of older guys in parts who can be a**holes. But, there are a couple of other guys who are pretty decent. Overall, I think Kegels is a Buell friendly dealer.

BTW, Kegel's is the oldest Harley dealership worldwide. Just some gee-wizz info.

yes the guy at Lakeshore is Kevin Kemen who use to work at Buell in East Troy. Now that I n longer work in Mundelein and Lake Shore doesn't have the B.R.A.G. program, I don't get in there very often to see him, so if you stop in there, tell him I said hi!

Have to been to Zylstra's new store in St Charles yet? That is close to Aurora and there is also a motorcycle shop in Geneva that has good prices on motorcycle tires.

I shop at Ukes in Kenosha which is very close and they have always treated me well!

Well my HD/Buell dealership finally got the parts in and I am picking up my bike this week. Weather and family have/would have prevented me from riding my bike for all this time that I have been waiting, but that is not the point. Before all this mess they did give me the best $$ on the tire that I could find w/o even asking, with a 1.00 charge for install.

How this tire was not in stock in the first place just amazes me, and the fact that they have not extended anything to me to help keep my business is beyond me. Maybe they best look at HD's new quarterly projections as the good old days of treating the customer like nothing but an open wallet just may be gone.

As a side note, Kevin from LakeShore HD/Buell is the best salesguy that I have yet to talk to, and the ONLY one that knew more about the product than I did. The only reason that I did not buy from them is that they did not have the Buell I decided I wanted.
I purchase most of my Buell OEM stuff from them as I get a better deal than I do from where I purchased my XB, they ship FAST, and I get my stuff quickly even if they have to order it.

I bought new plastics from them as I wanted a black fender and pillion cover for my red XB9R (looks kick @ss) and I had them in a week or so. That is great service.

They are a great shop at times. I called to get a TPS reset and I was told it was 55.00 Then once I was ready to get it done I called to set up an appointment and the price went to 150.00. I use Ukes in Kenosha, or the Racine WI dealer, or Lakeshore. Some days one shop is better then the other. Ukes tend to be the only one I can get an OK answer from. Not always the fastest. Especially when they have to work on a Buell. But hell what shop is? Service and support sucks for these bikes. But hey life can't always be easy! LOL

That's interesting to hear about Wildfire... any other news, good or bad? I had heard they sold ~38 units last year.

I'm not impressed with Zylstra or Conrads, at all.

I've heard good things, more than once, about Lakeshore HD.

Never been to Kegal's HD... sounds like something my wife should check out.

I think if sh!t falls through with Wildfire, I'll only go to Andy in Appleton. Honestly, anywhere else around here seems to be a crap shoot at best.

Clutch cables on back order? I just got one from Seminole Buell (a BWB sponsor) after waiting a few days to get it in (they are now going to stock that part).

I would buy replacement tires on-line. I get mine from "BuyMoto.com". You can catch them with deals like free shipping on purchases over $200. I normally buy two rears at a time (and a front every now and again) and change them myself which is easier than most people might realize (thanks Rich!).

Well, my bike is now back in my garage, and I can not believe just how much I missed riding her.

Needless to say, last time my bike will see that service department. Or parts counter.

Or sales floor when it is time for a new bike.

Kegel's is a Buell-friendly place, even though I don't work there, anymore.

The owner races a couple.

OK, need another tire. Seems like my bike attracts sheet metal screws. I know some may use the gummy worm plugs or a patch, I guess I am just too paranoid, so a new tire is on order.....again.

As stated above I live in the Chicago area of IL, and I have previously ranted about my dealership experience. Well, this time I called all my local HD/Buell dealers (there are 3 within 25 miles or so) and NONE had the Diablo T in stock. Incredible. And ALL but one wanted 60-80.00 to change the tire, even after I bought the tire from them.
Turns out the dealer that I purchased my 9R from is the best when it comes to service and taking care of the customer. Ok, they do not stock a tire for a bike that they sell (still amazes me), but none seem to. That being said, I buy the tire from them and the charge for tire change is $1.00. Yes, a buck. While I wait.

In my original negative rant I purposely did not name my dealer as I do not think that was needed. Easy enough to find that info anyway. But now I would like to send some positive kudos to Wildfire as my previous service experience most likely was not typical.
