I just had a salesman tell me that because of the changes to the 08 models (engines) they are "down" on power compared to the 07s. Is this BS? The reason I think he told me this is so I would buy the 07 mode, which he has one left in that model and would have to order an 08 for me. It was an STT, btw.

Ask him for some of his crack. It's obviously good stuff.

It's probably true. I hear they had to leave some of the rollers out of the muffler bearing to meet the new EPA limits. Either that, or the 2008 Knutesen valves are smaller.

Parasitic loss to the pneumatic fluid pump is what I heard.

I heard they had a shortage of dilithium crystals at the factory and the new flux capaciter had to be re-mapped to meet the EPA regulations on plutonium. Could just be another urban legend though.

Did you ask him how they were down on power and have a higher rev limit?

Let's look on the bright side for a moment. Maybe the guy's just stupid? If he's not stupid then he's a liar. I'm shocked he didn't tell you they were way down on power and that what you really needed was the powerhouse of performance 883 Sportster.

Hey, did you hear? Buell is putting in warp drive as an option on the 09 models.

First impressions are everything.
I'm glad you clowns think it's funny too. I sure did. What disappointed me was that it was by a sponsor on this board. And it seemed to reinforce the negative stereotype of Buell/Harley Dealers. I guess it's no big deal in the end except that they're not going to get my money or recurring business for servicing the bike.

Was it a sponsor on this board or one of the sponsors employees?

I'm sure the person writing the sponsorship check would like to know how their bread & butter customers are being treated. Food for thought.

they're down on power because they aren't using teflon tape on the drain plugs anymore.

I think it's because they arn't shipping them out with the headlights filled to the proper level with the correct weight headlight fluid.
The 08's are not only a pint low but the headlight fluid that they're using is too heavy of a grade which causes the headlights to put out more heat which causes the engine to run hotter which robs power.

Agreed -- initial impressions, etc, etc,, etc.

If the principal stakeholder has no knowledge of this how can they make the necessary changes?

There's way too many naysayers out there and we should, IMO, help Buell cull the herd of bad first impressions.

YMMV

Interesting.
* Indvidual Results May Vary. Due to stock manufacturing changes '06 & '07 models show less output on HP & TQ.

I had a salesman in Oregon tell me they had more power because of the new oil pump and a different timing cover. Maybe these 2 guys should get together.
