Hi all,

I have my eye on a 2006 XB12scg with less than 1000 miles on it. I'm going to go check it out. The lady who owns it is selling because it is too big for her (not power wise...height wise).I'm relatively mechanically inclined. Is there anything I should look for that is particular to Buell's? I suppose the only thing I would have to worry about is that she did something horrendous during the break in period. When are Buells do their first service by the dealer?

Thanks for any help.

Kim

First service is at 1000 miles. I would just go over it and make sure it has not been down. test ride it at hwy speeds to see if there is any strange steering shake etc.

Kim, 1000 miles is the first service check. I think they're not broken in until roughly 3-5000. They run a lot better once they are broken in, more power, better fuel economy etc. I have an 06 XB12Scg as well. Absolutely no issues since new. Just over 6000 miles now. Do a search on this site and you will find tons of info. The 07's and 08's are decently priced still and the 08's have quite a few improvements. If she is asking close to the MSR of the new bikes I would suggest to put your money on an 08 instead. But my 06 has been sweet from day 1.

Hopefully the lady wasn´t babying it too much
so that the rings are seated well ..

IMHO thats about the only "horrendous thing" she could do during break in. The first 50 miles.

Keep in my mind that Buell engines are noisy. You will hear more than the exhaust, especially since it probably has the stock exhaust. This is normal........don't think that engine is ready to fall apart.

+1 on the noisy part and the 5000 mile wearin. Just keep in mind these bikes will spoil you with low end torque.

Thanks everyone.

I just went to show my husband a picture of the bike, and he thinks it's ugly. Then he says:"It's not like the one that girl in Witchblade rides." WTF...you're looking at her ass, not the bike <laughs> Plus, he's not riding it.

BTW, anybody now what top price this bike should go for?
