A buddy let me ride his Honda 600RR the other day. I wasn’t surprised at how fast the bike was at the higher rpms but what did surprise me was how hard it pulled in the mid range! The motor, transmission and clutch were incredible! OMG these new jap 600’s are fast!!!

Still the RR just didn’t work as well as a total “package” as my Firebolt. The steering felt nervous even with its Ohlins damper. It steered too fast for my taste wouldn’t hold a line like my Buell does. It has a mind blowing power plant but, the RR was no where near as confidence inspiring as my Firebolt.

Exactly what is it about the Firebolt that makes it steer so much more precisely then any other bike that I have ever rode? I don’t understand how Buell used such extreme geometry yet made the bike so stable?

I’m glad that I got to ride the RR as it made me feel even better about my decision to buy my Firebolt.

try the 1000RR even more mind blowing than the 600 ...like a freight train waitin to be fired out of a cannon.

Hey Molly - you have the CBR also as well as the buell ?

How is the CBR in traffic - is it as comfortable as a buell ?

i was suprised at how comfortable it is...the buell hurt my wrists and hands pretty bad sometimes...the CBR isnt any worse or better....it does good in traffic..heat off the radiators is a little intense sometimes at a stop...but one whack of the throttle and holy sheepsh!t...the turn in is different than the buell but it still turns like its on rails...funny the biggest difference i feel is getting it out from underneath my stairs...the buell was easier to manuver...to make a short story long in traffic the honda is not as tame as the buell in slow traffic but still good...as far as comfort i think it is ok...i was a little worried...ya know being 43 and all the sit up position of the buell was more appealing to me...but so far the honda is treating me fine no problems with the slightly more laid down rider position...im diggin it big time.

I owned a 2001 CBR600 F4i for 5 1/2 years, and sold it in July to buy my '03 XB9R.

The CBR had about 20-25 more horsepower high up in the RPM band, and it was very obvious. But, the Buell pulls hard from idle, which the CBR did not do. The CBR's powerband started at 7500 RPM, which translates to ~40 mph in first gear. Any slower than that, and you are not in the power band.

I'd MUCH rather ride the Buell in traffic than the CBR. Both get really hot, the ergo's are pretty close (the bars on the CBR were a little higher). But the torque of the Buell wins, hands down, for in town riding, and canyon carving.

The seat on the CBR was great for track riding, but terrible for comfort (it was a thin, flat plank of foam).

CBR's handle awesome, but I like the XB even better with the short wheelbase and steep steering axis.

My comparison is to an F4i, not a new 600RR, but it's a similar comparo. The CBR is a great bike, but the Buell is just better in my opinion.

I havent spent any amount of time on a RR but i have spent a lot of time on Jap bikes. i race Yamahas, an R1 and R6. i just bought my 07 XB12s 2 weeks ago. i dont think you can compare the power between the two. the four cylinder bikes are just plain fast. i love the power of my yamahas and the 1000's are ridiculous fast. But for around town riding and having fun on the twisty roads, i dont think there is anything better than a Buell. i absolutely have a blast on mine everytime I ride it.
