Just replaced clutch cable second time in 16k mile on XB12R. Both times broke at ball at handle end.
New cables are more $ and have a coating of some type to within inch of ends.
Whats the best way to care for new type cable?}

This stuff is an awesome dry lube, good for lubing cables and chains (assuming you have a cycle with a chain : ) )

It used to be harder to find, but you can now get it at lowes. I purchased mine at ACE Hardware. Best stuff on earth, good for just about everything from guns, window hardware and seals, motorcycles, hinges, you name it.

Since the dupont product dries leaving a slippery/non-greasy film, it does not attract dirt. Nice, especially if you live near gravel roads or farmland.

Don't worry about this being the wrong place, it is probably the only "right" place.

I placed a question in the "Knowledge Vault" under the "Tires" section August 5th, and have had no answers (well, as of yet).

That spray is VERY good stuff. I have some Krytox (expensive teflon grease) that I use on the lever end.

I have one of those cable lubers with 2 knurled screws that you slip on the end of the cable. After tightening down the screws you insert the tube from your favorite lube and generously lube/ flush your cable. It makes a HUGE difference in the force needed on the lever and the life of the cable.

Grease the ferel (sp?) and leave the cable alone has been my sucessful formula.

In 75,000+ miles on Tuber's or XB's I have not replaced a cable if I lubricated both the end of the cable at the lever and the cable in it's housing YRMV.

I can tell the difference when I squirt some good lube down the cable. It will make the difference in spending $150 for one of those clutch ease kits and a few $0.0? worth of lube.
