Anyone know if a Blast engine will bolt directly into an XB frame (I am expecting to run the XB head)?

I am thinking of project SuperBlast...

Yep.

It's a great project bike.

You'll have to make up the head bracket to tie into the chassis from the rear of the head but that's a simple part to make.

If you search here, Chaconas had a racebike built for him that way - Blast/XB hybrid. There are pics around but he's not big on email so you're not going to get information on him.

See if you can have a close look at an XB and look at the fitting that attaches the head into the chassis between the cylinders, you'll see what I mean. THAT's the gizmo you'll have to make up.

Cool.

I was thinking of tossing the Thunderstorm head and piston and running an XB9 which should mean bolt up (or I would think so if it's only the head bracket that doesn't line up). I think the head change is worth a few ponies anyway.

Since I got the right guys attention, what class could I race it in at WSIR or SOW? I was thinking Formula Singles is probably it if I go 515cc or 600 cc. What's the competition like in that class if you know?

Thanks,

Formula singles is the only class it's legal - except Formula Twins lightweight (up to 660cc) - the Twins class can be good experience if you aren't hoping for a win because that is mostly made up of SV650, EX500 and GS500 twins. You can race it in 500 singles IF Tim Hurley and Jim Chaconas are the only other racers - they won't protest. Besides, if you DO start racing it, you're gonna want to pit with us anyways!

Same class distinctions in Streets of Willow. Blast is better suited to that series but sometimes Kenny Kopecky shows up on his Husky Motard and cleans up.

The Formula Singles class has no displacement limit so IF you're building a bike JUST for that class and the Formula Twins lightweight, you CAN build it to a 660cc bike - something on that order.

I've got a Blast motor in the garage but the chassis I was going to use is on standby for my XB1169 rebuild.

You'd be welcome to come out to the pits and see what's been done. $10 at the gate but you get to go anywhere. WE are always on the left after you get through the gate - past the restrooms "the House of Charmin West."

The XBlast might be out there for you to talk to Chaconas or Don Thutt - I believe he was the one who did most of the actual work on the conversion.

Steve,

Thanks for all the info. I'll try and make it out once things cool down a bit in So Cal.

As for Kenny, I know what you mean. Last time I was doing a trackday at SOW he showed up and was behind me on the skidpad but still passed me in turn 2 on the inside (and I was on a 749R with a lot more power). I did get a great picture though with me leading (for a second or two: )
