I brought my buell for service since the valve in the muffler was not opening.

Dealer replaced valve under warranty.

But now the it seems like the valve is in the always open mode ( it is louder and there is less acceleration at low speed ).

Could they have programmed the valve to always stay open and not turn on the check engine light ( this is what happened before when the valve was not opening)?

Everything on my bike is stock.

Is there a test I can to make the servo move through the range of motion?

The ECM tells the servo to activate at certain throttle position & engine load, sounds like the cable may be stuck or the actuator on the muffler may need attention.

Is there some way I can prove to the dealer that is not working correctly ( some error code ).

This will be the 3rd visit to the dealer for this problem.

Overall the dealer has been great, but I have a feeling their new tech knows HD and is just learning these Buells.

As I discovered when I repainted my muffler... when you first turn the key to the "On" position the servo will open and then close the valve as it goes through it's full diagnostic before the red "engine light" goes out.

Yes.

Turn the bike on with the kill switch in the off position. Open the throttle all the way and then flip the kill switch to the on position. When the kill switch goes into the on position, the muffler valve will go closed-open-closed. It doesn't stay open very long, but long enough for you to verify that it is moving.

BTW, I'm guessing your dealer did not correctly adjust the cable tension when the actuator was replaced. If you take the airbox cover off, the actuator is on top of the airbox. There should be slack in the cable when the bike is off.

Hi all

Hope this saves some one grief down the road.

I got my bike back an the interactive exhaust was still not operating... so dealer replaced the mechanical valve. Could not get the thing working at all.

They give me back the bike and say everything is good to go but I can tell just buy the exhaust sound that is is not right.

As soon as I get home I do the test suggested and see the servo go through the full range of motion. I put the cover back on a go for a spin -- the interactive exhaust valve is now opening and closing like it should.

So it seems like the test some how reset the ECM program with regard to the interactive valve. The other possibility I guess is the cable was pinching. A year back my fuses were blowing because the cable was not moving freely.
