(Hope I have chosen the right place for placing my question this time... )

I think of buying a Buell.
XB12ScG is the one I like most of all.

The main question is as follows: can the seat be changed into a low profile* one without any problems?

* for a person whose height is 155 cm
Unfortunately there are no Lightnings of this very model to be found here in Moscow and I am afraid there won't be any in near future! Therefore hardly anyone can give me a piece of good advice concerning possible construction changes...

I look forward to receiving your comments. Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello Strekozza,

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but welcome to Buell and BadWeB!

Have I understood you correctly that the standard 726 mm is already considered to be a "low profile seat"?

This is definitely too much for me
Do you happen to know if it can be made even lower?

Welcome to the BadWeb Olga.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to modify or change the seat from an XB12Scg to lower the seat height. The stock seat on the XB12Scg is the Buell XB low seat. I am guessing that you could cut some of the cushion / foam out of the low seat, but there is not much there to start with in that model seat. You would most likely end up with a hard seat that would not be comfortable, especially for any long rides.

Is there anyone out there that is about 5 feet tall, and riding an XB12Scg or XB9SL that can give any input here?

Good luck Strekozza

Thank you for your reply, Fran.

I thought as much in fact - that I would "most likely end up with a hard seat".

As I mentioned before there are few Buells in Moscow (and I guess in the whole country), at least I have not yet come across any Buell owner except a guy from St.Petersburg but he has an XB12Ss with an even higher seat.

And to find a rider who is "about 5 feet tall" (this is already a rare case, haha) with a Buell here is extremely difficult : (

Olga - Welcome to BadWeb,

If you lower the seat too much, you'll fry your rear-end from engine heat and the fan. Besides what's been mentioned, the only other alternative I can think of is; lower the suspension even more or make the suspension as soft as possible thus obtaining sag thru compression.

Thank you, Mike.

Actually I need the seat to be not higher than 26 inches.
Thus I was just wondering whether lowering the suspension or/and cutting some foam out of the low seat as suggested above would really help.

Have you ever seen anyone of my height riding an XB12Scg? : )

i dont know for a fact but i'd bet you could lower it a good 5cm with out coming into large clearance issues. you'd have to watch out on some of the more 'rugged' roads but other than that you should be fine from what i remember of Moscow.

have you tried siting on the "r" model? the seat is not as wide at the front allowing your legs to be closer together and closer to the ground.

another thought, since getting your feet comfortably down has as much to do with the width of the seat as the height, can the sg seat be cut inward from the sides rather than just lowered? where there's a will there's a way!

Yes, I have seen a person your size on an Scg. They lowered the suspension a little bit, made the suspension soft and trimmed some material from the seat. When they sat on the bike, they were still on their toes, but both feet/toes were on the ground.

To Chit: thank you, I see it is not yet time to say goodbye to all hopes : )

To Mikexlr650: did you mean the new 1125R model or the XB12R? Anyway, sportbikes are not for me...
To Tunes: oh, great! This really sounds reassuring

almost 90% sure he meant the xb12r, and your welcome... just remember the art of motorcycle customization has been around longer than you'd think, if you have a problem some one has most likely already found the solution.

This goes without saying. If only people here did not look upon Buells as the eighth wonder of the world... : )

Saying „here“ I meant Moscow!

Obtaining any detailed information about Buells here at our place is an almost insolvable task.
