So let me get this straight, BRAG is dead, along with it's roadside assistence program.

I called, they say I can sign up for HOG benefits, but that they will only tow me to the closest Harley Davidson dealership, which may not service Buells. So at that point, the Harley dealership could say to me, get it towed somewhere else, we won't work on it. And of course we know most independent shops won't work on it...so...

So basically, we have been abandoned. If I break down, I'm screwed and have to pay towing to some Buell dealership 100%? I guess I better map them out and make sure I don't stray too far.

Of course I am about to go riding in Nova Scotia, where my closest Buell dealership is 10 hrs 26 min away... lol

So pack a few tools, a spare master link, safety wire everything important BEFORE your road trip and have a fun ride.

Dude, you're from Alaska... land of the "take care of yourself or die" attitude...

I have a feeling you don't interact with us east coast city boys much who have never picked up a wrench. But thanks for the advice, wish I could heed it.

Cape Bretton, Cabot trail is the destination... that's 5+ hrs from you Hogs, that would probably change your mind, ha.

But a kind gesture all the same.

Not so worried about this NS trip, I mean we are trailering, so I can always just drag it home. But in general, I thought it was a great benefit....and I had to use it once for a flat...

Just concerns me. A new hidden cost of ownership. Rather than $19.95 a year, it could be a $500 tow bill.

I'll work on your ride there Larry!

Can't see you going to a stealership. Them NEBO guys can testify I take pride in other peoples rides when doing work on them.

Unlike the Stealership, You WILL NOT get Free Scratches, Super High Bill's for messing your ride up, or any of the Stupid "Buell" Remarks....

Stop in the NEBO section and say Hello!

"And of course we know most independent shops won't work on it...so..."

Try carrying the Service Manual with you. I have never had problems with most independent shops working on my bikes, after all, you just tell them, "it is a Sportster Motor."
Let them find out on their own about rotating the motor forward to get access to the rear cylinder by reading the manual, OK? : )

Just caught this, "Not so worried about this NS trip, I mean we are trailering,"
A "trailer-biker" b******* about his lack of emergency roadside motorcycle service, that is PRICELESS.

Well yes Curtyd, I make fun of trailer-bikers too.... but it's not my trailer, so it's a special occasion ; )

Anyway 30 hours round trip on a CityX with my wife and luggage was not high on my list of "Things to do before I die".

It's not like I'm a Harley rider trailering to Sturgis...geez...

I tried using the BRAG roadside assistance once. When my charging system died for the 3rd time I called them. They tried for an hour and half and couldn't find a tow company in Los Angeles to tow a bike. They suggested calling the police for a tow truck and they would reimburse me the 100 bucks they cover. I ended up calling AAA, I didn't have the motorcycle coverage at the time so I had to pay for it but they did put me in touch with a tow company and had a truck there in 15 minutes. So you are not missing much.

It was a nice benifit to BRAG membership. I got AAA membership to replace it. You have to get the RV option to cover motorcycle towing, but you get 100 miles of free towing, not just to the closest dealership. Covers towing my POS car too. : )

I June my ULY fuel pump shorted out in Bryce Canyon, Utah...140 mile tow to Hurricane, Utah to Zion HD...Bill was $4.00 per mile for 140 miles = $560.00. My $10.00 Roadside Asst. from Progressive paid it...Very Good Thing...

I believe BRAG RA only covered towing up to $100. They might fully cover the tow to a dealership but what are the dealership is going to be open when you need the tow. Also AAA only covers 60 miles of towing for motorcycles and RVs even when you have AAA Plus, the 100 miles of free towing are for cars only. I found that out the 4th time my charging system failed on me. I had AAA Plus with RV/Motorcycle coverage. The tow guy said they cover up to 60 miles and after that it's $7 a mile. It was 57 miles back home, I was lucky on that one.

Brag was free or nearly. AAA isn't much more. Make arrangements for alternative roadside assistance or buddy up to someone who can help you get over your fear of T27's and allen heads.

If it's a stator, voltage regulator, or major engine or transmission problem, you ain't fixin' it yourself. About the only real fixable main problem you might have is the belt. Not a big deal to swap out.

How far from home are you roaming? I don't even feel like I've been on a ride if it isn't more than 500 miles in a day.

I use MTS.

They have good rates and so far the service has been excellent. Over the course of one month I had two flat tires, a stator failure and a broken belt. They towed me back to my house every time. One time they towed me about 15 miles beyond the "nearest servicing dealership" that the contract states is the requirement.

Just a thought, but if they'll tow you to the nearest H-D shop I'm thinking that's better than leaving your bike chained to a tree. Have them tow it to the nearest dealership, then have that dealership lock it up until you can return with a trailer since they might not be an approved Buell shop.

I'm thinking I can couple H.O.G. benefits and towing with my insurance towing if I need to get a bike to a different shop. Tow #1 is on H.O.G., tow #2 is on the insurance (maybe, haven't had to try it yet).

Also AAA only covers 60 miles of towing for motorcycles ...

AAA coverage + benefits can vary by state of issuance. AAA Colorado tows MC's up to 100 miles. I speak from experience!

Shoulda gotten a nice dependable jap bike...Bullet proof and if for whatever reason you should break down on the side of the road, there is always at least 3 shops within a 10 mile radius!! Harley Stealerships attitude is what made me sell my beautiful Buell to begin with. What good is a vehicle if the company is not there to back you up?? That's like Chrysler telling my wife they won't service her jeep anymore...what a crock of crap H-D services turned out to be...
