I am in my second Buell XB. the first an '04 XB12S. That was stolen and I replaced it with an '04 XB12R. I test rode the '06 models and was impressed with the improvements ( new tranny, clutch springs, inner airbox, etc.) but not quite enough to take the loss on the trade. Now with the '08 model changes I think I will take the hit. I would guess its gonna take my bike plus at LEAST $4000 to get the new bike. Long story, quick question...are the changes worth the cash?

It depends on how happy you are with your current bike.

Are a few more RPM, on-board TPS, and a different oil pump and ignition pick-up worth it to YOU?

If you won't use those features, or they won't make a noticeable difference to you then it really isn't worth it.

I would venture to say it would be worth it for no longer having the hassel of having to manually reset the TPS...

Plus it's a 25th year model addition!! Oh yeah, did you notice it comes in white and blue??? LOL

I have a 2004 and I don't think I would spend $4000 to upgrade to the 2008 model, assuming that my 2004 were working well, with reasonable mileage on it.

The reason is, (aside from the fact that my particular bike is highly modified), is that while the new bike is certainly improved, I think the riding experience would be very much like my current bike.

On the other hand, if I were a Firebolt rider with a hankering for a new Buell, I would find the 1125R a much more interesting proposition.

Admittedly, it cost $2000 more, but it is an entirely different motorcycle, with performance that greatly exceeds the XB12R.

Of course that assumes that one can utilize the performance. I think I might enjoy the smoothness, but frankly, I am not sure I could handle another 40 hp at full chat.

I look forward to taking a demo ride on an 1125 to test my theory at the earliest possible opportunity. I have a feeling I might just change my mind.

It would be nice to go the 1125R route but if you are already worried about the money then the insurance will kill you compared to the 12R. For me it is the difference between $800/year or almost $1500/year for a water cooled liter sportbike.

The upgrades are nice (crank timed, no tps resets etc.) but I wouldn't trade in my 05 12S for an 08 unless it was for something different like a 12R or 12X or the coolest bike ever made..err..I mean an 1125R.

In short, I wouldn't trade my bike in for the same exact model just for the upgrades.
