Has anyone ridden an 2008 Lightning or Firebolt yet? Was wondering how does the engine runs compared to your older XB.

08 XB12Ss. Motor sputters, bangs, farts just like 07s and before. Blip the throttle too fast from idle and it pops/stutters, then revs up. 500 miles on it, still doing it.

No other noticeable difference, pulls just as strong.

Feels a little tighter and smoother since my 05 has 29k.

can you guys go more in depth please.

Does the new oil cooler make the engine any noticeably cooler?

Does the increased red line improve off the line performance?

Does the engine spin up any faster?

Top end RPMs won't have any affect off the line.

You'll only see an improvement there at the top end.

Demo ride I was on was pretty lame, so I didn't get a chance to really wind it out. The 08s felt like your typical Buell. Shakes at idle, smooths out as the revs build, etc. I don't think you would really notice the extra 300 rpm. The real advantage is the decreased maintenance and improved oil pump from the early models, no more tps resets, timing checks, or self destructing oil gear woohoo. Now if they just made a self adjusting primary chain tensioner all you have to do to them is change the oil, filters, and spark plugs.

Thanks for the response. I was wondering if the motor runs smoother going slow in first gear at low rpms.

throttle posistion sensor- it tells the ecm how far open the throttle is so it can adjust fuel/air accordingly

This is disappointing. Given the updates made to the new ECM and the fact that this is the 3rd generation DDFI, I would've expected throttle response to be smooth and linear. Seeing how it shares the same DDFI, it'll be interesting to see if this is also a problem with the 1125.

I'm kinda disappointed myself.
I wasn't expecting the upgrades to totally smooth out the engine (kind of hard with a long stroke) but I was hoping for noticeable improvement.

I doubt that the 1125R will have the same problem being as it's an over square engine.

Every under square engine I've ever experienced has had some problem or other at sub 20mph speeds.
I believe it's the nature of the beast when the stroke is larger than the bore.

Edit: The XB9 has the same bore as the 12 but a shorter stroke which is why it's considerably smoother than the 12. It's a tad bit closer to square.
So when you consider that the 1125R has a bore bigger than the stroke, all evidence leads to smooth. Of course the proof is in the pudding so I guess we'll have to wait & see.
