I'm heading out this weekend and want to put my XB in the bed of my rig for the trip. I could use advice on strapping her in. I read an old thread about using soft straps on the lower triple tree, but could use more info on what you guys do to strap down the rear end.

Thanks in advance,

Heibs

i usually put a strap around the bottom triple tree on each side, and one around each back corner of the swingarm where the axle goes through.

i was in a vehicle behind the trailer with my bike in it when it became airborn about 2 feet off the ground on the way to daytona. i about lost it. but when we looked in the trailer it was still sitting just as i put it.

Soft straps around the forks just above the lower triple is the best place to grab the front IMHO.

For the rear I usually loop a strap though the rear wheel once to hold the rear down and where you want it to stay.

when i got my 1970 Triumph from SC and trucked it back to Daytona I blew every seal and had rotten 37 y/o fork oil all in the bed of my truck is stank to high heaven. And in a town where everything is harley and Suzuki finding a rebuild kit for an old brit bike is like trying to find an empty spot in a walmart parking lot within half a mile of the front door.

I compressed the front forks about 5/8"- 3/4", but that's what it took to get it tight.

I was told years ago to use the handle bars to strap the bike down. The bars are cheaper to replace in the event of an accident or what have you than the forks....

I was told that too, but there's no place to get the straps on the bars without messing up the controls, cables and wiring.
