Greetings Everyone, Recently installed a Penske rear shock on my XB9SX. It's awesome! With that said, if anyone is interested, I posted the stock shock on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem =&item=260146732071&rd=1 $9.95, no reserve, shipped world wide. |

The penske is a premium shock and when you order it most places ask you questions about your weight and type of riding you do so that they can tailor it to suit your needs through valving, oil viscosity, and of course spring rate. The Penske shocks are just as easy to tune as the stock shock in standard form and it also has adjustable ride height. By way of comparison my brother calls his street XB9R a "couch" compared to the race bike with a Penske rear shock and GMD computrak re-worked forks. |

Diablobrian is correct. I did get a spring and valving for my weight and riding style/conditions. Under normal street chop it's a little stiff because I have a straight rate spring instead of a progressive rate like the stock shock. Adjusting is as easy as stock. It does have adjustable ride height and it can be owner revalved, which I will never do but it's nice to know I can. Out in the twisties here in Southern C.A. it really soaks up the whoops in the middle of turns, the bike doesn't squat when acceling hard out of a turn, it actually gets plush under load. I'm happy. Also I had the front end done by Pettersson Performance (Stig Pettersson) in Anaheim, CA. The front works real good now as well. |

OBTW, Pettersson Perfprmance (PPS)does do a reasonably priced mod to the stock Buell Showa shock: Straight rate spring, appropriate to the riders weight, with a custom spacer which gets the preload spot on and complete revalving. All for somewhere in the $350-$400 range. It's great for someone who wants to improve their suspension without going to a full replacement unit. |
