I finally was able to ride an RC51. Compared to my XB9R:

It sure feels heavier, but that's because it is. The seat's taller, and because I'm vertically challenged, I'm on my tip-toes holding her steady. You really stretch out reaching for the bars, but I kind of like that riding position. Ask me again after an hour of riding, and my opinion might change.
This bike had Yoshi exhausts and sounded sweet! Not quite as deep a rumble as an XB, but sweet music in its own right- far better than any I4.
The ride was short and not fast, but I like the acceleration, very smooth. Nice torque but I think the XBs have more down low. Is that because of the v-twins' different cylinder angles?
The bike I rode had race-track shifting - 1 up, 5 down. It took some getting used to, but it actually seemed to make more sense for a sport bike. When you're tucked in, shifting pushing your foot down seems more natural.
You can feel the extra heft going around corners - you don't throw it into a corner like an XB, but more like roll it into one, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, a very nice bike. I'm considering trading in my XB for the RC. Nothing at all wrong with XBs, but as is my habit, I change bikes every 2 years or so. The RC51 seems like a natural progression, and I can't afford a 1125R.
Anybody else's thoughts on RC51s?

I think it's a great bike... getting a little long in the tooth, though... it's been around for awhile with no major updates.

I never realized how heavy they were. Honda adverts a 439lb dry weight... add all the liquids and I bet that bike pushes 500lbs all up.

I've always liked those bikes but the weight and the riding position have always made me hesitate. The seat is supposed to be rock hard but that is easily fixable with many aftermarket alternatives.

You should check out the Triumph 675 too while your shopping. I've heard nothing but good things about that bike and the triple makes a pretty sweet tune. Not as sweet as a v-twin but tons better than an I4.

I liked the RC51, except for the ergos and seat. It's not a bad motorcycle per se, but I like the Superhawk better.

Better yet is the Suzuki tl1000R. Now that is a sweet sounding bike when you put twin yosh pipes on it, and it is much
more comfortable. The R even got rid of the rear rotary damper of the s IIRC.

I'd wait and save my pennies and buy the 1125r if I was looking for a water cooled twin right now though.

The only thing I didn't like about the RC was the heat. You think the XB is hot! All that heat from the twin radiators exits right on you.
Other than that, there really is a lot to like...other than it's a Honda.

When I tried the rc, the only other twin I had tried before was a X1 and the rc didn't feel near as torquey as the X1. I was disappointed with the power feeling all up top like the I4's. I mean the 929 I tried just before it felt like it had more torque.

Did you considered a use superduke? I know they are rare since they just got here this year but you can find some good deal already.
