 So, a friend of mine who rides a Honda CBXR1000RR asked me if I'd like to come over, hang-out and help him bleed his breaks and a couple other things... I said sure, 'cause we both had girlfriend things to talk about too. Anyway, when I got there, he had half his bike torn apart. I was a little surprised and he told me he wanted to change the spark plugs too. He couldn't find the un-opened bottle of dot-4 fluid and went to buy some. While he ran to the store to get a bottle of fresh fluid, I just sat there looking at the bike and saying to myself "man look at all these parts!". I mean there are SOOOOO MANY PARTS!!! So, he returned, and we bled the brakes and hydraulic clutch - no big deal. Then, he pulls out this sheet he printed from the CBR forum, explaining the "easy" way to replace plugs - without spending some $300 at the dealership/mechanic. Whoa. I mean... Whoa! We had to perform open-freakin-heart-surgery. I could have had my engine dropped and rotated and put back again before we could even get to the plugs. I LOVE MY BUELL. NO CHAIN, NO RADIATOR, NO WATER PUMP, 1/2 THE PARTS, ALL OF THE FUN! I just went over 6K PROBLEM-FREE miles on my "LightningBolt" and when I returned from our 200-mile'r yesterday, my buddy who rides a Suzuki TL (really neat V-Twin) called me to say how much he likes my bike and every time I blew past him he LOVED the way it sounds and... Anyhow, you get the picture. So, the moral of the story is: BE BUELL PROUD... yea, like you're not already. Cheers, ride safe.  | ||

Simple is best, especially when you do your own work. I've been on several Buell Barn adventures. Everything from complete top-end restore, to swapping tails (I have a Lightning Bolt too), to stator swaps... and I'm always amazed at how quick we get things done. The only major problem I have is tools, I don't have a lot of them. But I have friends that do, making jobs, less work, and more like time spent with friends. | ||

Wow. And to think I was a little trepidatious about changing the rear plug on my XB. Of course that was before I made the actual attempt and discovered just how easy it is with the right tools. Simplicity is bliss  | ||

 i went through the same thing just a bit ago, guy had me help him replace his water pump... took 3.5 hours 2 cases of beer and 3 skinned knuckles from the tight cramped spaces. | ||

+1 I Actually look forward to a nice evening in the garage with my Buell. It really is a joy to work on, almost zen like. It gives me a very secure feeling to know I am the one that turns the wrenches. And the Buell makes that an easy task indeed. |
