Lately the fan on my XB 12 seems to change speed with engine speed. When it is on in traffic and I accelerate from a stop, I can hear the pitch change as the engine speed increases. I only noticed this behavior a few days ago. Does this sound normal, or am I looking at a some electrical work?

May be normal.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless your starter starts to drag, or you start to smell the smelly smell of something that smells smelly, like burnt transmission oil.
You're not using Mobil1 gear oil are you?
If you are, that could spell stator trouble.
