My bike came with the race filter. I read on American Sports Bike's web page that there's cleaning and re-oiling that should be done. Could somebody please list their maintenance ritual?

It matters which race filter you have. If you have the K&N style do this
http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm

If you have the late style Buell race filter that is not oiled use an air hose with a low pressure setting and apply the air from the inside out to remove large debris like bugs, rocks and excess dirt then clean with warm water and mild soap, rinse and let air dry. Do not oil.

Which one would come with a year old race kit?

The original Buell race filter made by K&N had black surrounds for the sealing surfaces and uses an oiled media to trap debris. The late version has blue surrounds, same as the standard filter but it is washable and it does not use oil on the filtering media.

IIRC the K&N no-oil version is marked "DO NOT OIL" on the rubber perimeter of the filter.
