The '08 still comes in the Black/Red. They dumped the yellow/black, which I thought was pretty cool.

Well I'm just a bit sad that they didn't make an arctic white lightning. I know I can get almost all the parts to convert a S in arctic white but there is still the fly screen left and even if I get a STT fly screen it won't have the blue lightning written on it.

Me too. In fact, as we speak (write?) I'm waiting on a callback from my dealer with some numbers and ETA on availability.

My only problem is I have always wanted a lightning and I know the firebolt won't be as comfy so I still have to figure out what I really want.

I love the Firebolt...looks.

The ergos after 10-minutes killed my wrists and hurt bad, so, dissapointed I hopped on a CityX to try that and never looked back. Literally bought it that week.

While I still think that nothing looks like the Firebolt, the Lightning is super comfy and with the tall wide bars of the CityX, handles incredibly well, especially in the City, and I have no regrets on my purchase (although I still lust after the Firebolt and wish it was as comfy as my Lightning).

But if I were in the market for a new bike, I might consider dealing with pain for a black and Cherry Bomb R. The rest of these guys can have the 1125R, us air cooled guys just got a discount!

Just got a callback from my dealer - the first white Firebolt they have coming in will be the last week of August. According to him, it appears that there will be more black 12Rs shipping - at least at first. I find that a little surprising as my hunch is that the white/blue combo is going to be far and away the most popular color. It just looks so different...

Every time I roll out of the garage on my WHITE 03.

Every bit of road grime sticks out like a sore thumb, Beware of june bugs especially though.

I'm not a fan of bright white, which this seems to be, but it looks pretty good. The blue saves it.

Firebolt is hard on the wrists, as stated above, but you have to learn to use your thighs to grab the tank and take some weight off of your arms. Works well.

I can now do an all day ride on my '07 XB9R (the late, great XB9R...) with minimal pain. And that seat is excellent.

That is just sooooo Sexy

Funny comments on the comfort. I think it depends on your size and weight.
I owned a CityX and found that on long trips it wasnt comfortable.
Now I own a 12R and installed the HeliBar triple clamp.
IMHO - it is much more comfortable
but
I am 5'5" 140lbs
I will admit tho, the stock handlebar position isnt great for long trips

Insurance/cost of ownership enough said. Like I said in another thread after a lot of thinking the XB12R is probably the best bang for the buck sportbike around. It is priced right, insurance is dirts cheap, handles GREAT, good on gas, and low maintenance. What more could you ask for. I have decided I do not need to go 200mph or have 150hp. I want something I can use on the STREET everyday and still have money to go see a movie once in awhile!!

I totally agree. I don't need to go SUPER FAST. HEck, I don't even need to go fast. Just looking for a bike to have fun on, but yet most importantly fit well on & can ride it for quite awhile.
Spoke w/ Erik Buell this past friday and he pretty much said "Is there a big difference between going 178mph vs 173mph?" First time I heard him speak and he pretty much had me at "hello"

Think of the Bolt as a sportbike for the "real world". There's few public roads where you can legally push an inline-4 sportbike to its "sweet spot". Being a torque monster, the Bolt hits its sweet spot right from the start.

But, it's all good.

The XB is a great fit for the street, it is quick enough to get anyone into serious trouble, but without the higher cost of
ownership not to mention the cheap repair parts ala.. $10 turn signals and it's great crash survivability.

The bikes are like a grown up lego set too, Buell owners are mixing and matching parts from different models to make
their own very personalized dream bike (like my xb1250RLX or Steve Mackay's Uly-bolt, or any of the various lightning-bolts).

Add in the fact that Buells rarely show up on a bike thief's most wanted list because of the previously mentioned low parts cost
and therefore lower profit on parting it out, plus the fact that Buells are so few and far between you end up looking at
the choice between what is essentially a "me too" bike and a bike that is cheap to own, easy to love, and very unique, even
when it is completely bone stock.

However the bottom line is this, ride both and decide which one moves YOU. That is the right choice.
