Well, like they say, not if but when. Coasting down my drive way to park in the garage and my son comes running up alongside me. Overreacted, grabbed the breaks, and dropped it. Aside from cussing out my poor little son, nothing too much is damaged. Broke the left side peg and bent the shift lever a bit. Scratched the CRG end mirror, but the handguards seemed to have absorbed most of the fall and saved the mirror and clutch lever. Anyway, any opinions on peg upgrades? Or are the stock pegs sufficient? Also, what is the likelihood of bending the aluminum shift lever back without it snapping? Gotta' go swallow my pride and apologize to my son now. | ||

Straightening the shift lever is a bit of a crap shot. Could happen. Often doesn't. Heat could help, but is tricky on aluminum. Thats the bad news. The good news is that now you have a perfect excuse for getting some nice billet foot pegs and Crossroads shift and brake levers from American Sport Bike, one of our sponsors. you can also super glue the peg back together, the aluminum is die cast which makes it very porous. It worked for me until I decided to make it up to the dealer and get new ones. I still have it. I could put all my weight on it and it wouldn't break. | ||

Wrongo guys. That shifter is forged (pretty sure) and amazingly strong. Just put it in some soft jaws and vise and you will need some pipe for leverage. It won't break. You probably want to buy a new pivot bolt and rubber tip (thankfully with Buell prices it's only a few bucks). As for the pegs, they ARE cast and fragile, but again very cheap. Just buy new stock pegs and save a bundle. Just my two cents (been there, done that). | ||

I have the same pegs and mounts pictured above. The quality is fan-freakin-tastic! But so is the price. The pegs were $39, but the 1" drop mounts were $100. Still glad I made the purchase from American Sport Bike. Great people. Tank | ||

Thanks for everyone's input. This is my daily rider, so hoping the local dealers will have at least the stock pegs available. I'll be making calls in the morning to see who has what in stock. With those fancy billet jobs in the picture, are they too strong? As in, will the frame or tranny casing break before those do? They sure look neat, but like Xbolt12 said, the stock pegs are cheap and have worked for me so far. | ||

Hey, your son won't be so eager to greet you for a while. In a few years he'll probably stay inside playing a video game when you rumble on home. Enjoy these special years. I did. Your bike will get fixed. All will be good. | ||

Point well taken Norm. I went and had about a 10 minute talk with him after I cooled down. I'll definitely have to talk to him some more. He seemed very timid around me afterward, which tears my heart out, but that's what I get for overreacting. Maybe I can get him to help me fix it. He'd probably like that. | ||

which tears my heart out, but that's what I get for overreacting. No one ever said parenting was easy. We've all done the same thing. Bikes will be dropped for less reasons than our children. Fix the bike and go on with life. Go have an ice cream cone with your son. | ||

TilleyHD had the parts in stock. Got a new peg, shift lever, and pivot bolt. Me and the boy all got it back together in just a few minutes. These bikes are WAY easy to work on! I'm back on the road!  | ||

Tilley's..... You've got it good.(from what I hear) I'd have to wait a week to get stuff from board sponsors, because it's faster than the dealer. Teach that boy to keep his tongue in his mouth, until the appropriate moment arises. Tilley's is pretty good about having stock parts in, and even have a few after market items on the shelf, but it did take the guy a 1/2 hour or so to actually find the parts. All totaled, one minor bike drop equaled $50 in parts, 30 minutes drivetime to/from dealer, 10 minutes of labor, and some good father/son time. Not bad at all. | ||
