I read about so many of you guys breaking belts that I decided to buy a spare for my 03 XB9R.....I picked it up on Saturday and it cost me almost $400!!!
Today I did a pretty tame trackday and on the way home popped a little wheely to end the day.....guess what....I broke my drive belt.
Theres a moral there somewhere?

It must have been mis-handled at the store?

Id bet that Buell would replace it.

Froggy you're right I broke the old belt. You know I'm not at all sure what belt ! was given, the part no. seems to be G0500-1AEE and it cost $400 just for the belt......aren't you glad you don't live in Ireland, the second most expensive country in Europe.

Ah Ireland, that would explain it. Is that $400 US Dollars or 400 of your currency?

I hope it is 400 ireland. I've seen the guys down under buying multiple belts from Appleton HD and having them shipped over for a heck of a lot less.

So, buying the belt was either:
(1) bad karma - you caused the old one to break, or
(2) good karma - your inner Buell told you that you needed to get a replacement, NOW!

I had nothing to do with that belt breaking.

Price of a belt in the UK is around GBP150 or US$300. Dealers over here will not warranty belts even if they break on the way home from the shop : (

Sounds like the ideal candidate for a Free Spirits sprung belt tensioner ;)

Matt,
My order is on the way - I presume that you will ship to Ireland?
Prof, I think the word you are looking for is synchronicity! (€400 worth of it)
Can anyone confirm whether I have got the right replacement belt based on the number given in my previous post?

I'd call it irony.

You can convert to chain drive for less than the cost of that belt, btw. Of course then your bike wouldn't be different, and you'd have chain lube all over everything, and you might as well ride a Honda, and you'll have to adjust your chain every 32 miles.

Spatten, 32 miles ,wow I only have to adjust the valves on my Yamaha every 60 miles,I would never go to a chain.

You can convert to chain drive for less than the cost of that belt, btw.about half that cost actually Of course then your bike wouldn't be different,I don'y see many buells with chains so yes it would! and you'd have chain lube all over everything,maybe if you use oil to lube..that was olden days...there are much better options now}and you might as well ride a Honda, and you'll have to adjust your chain every 32 miles.If you adjust it that often obviously you don't know how to work on a bike, may as well get your self some training wheels also. I've had mine on for 5,000 miles w/ one chain adjustment after the initial break in stretch. }

But then we all like to be different in some way or another, and opinions vary....to each his own, as long as you ride (even a honda) it is all good.

Thinking of ridding.....I'm Out of here!!!

Eric, I think that Scotts post was 100% pure sarcasm at its finest!

Its tough to type sarcasm though... we need a button for that. Kinda like the "bold" or "italics" button.
