Ok here goes . I purchased a 2006 Xb12R on june 1st 2007 that has the factor warranty until may of 2008 . Since ive had the bike it has been in the shop 4 times and is still in the shop . 1st time- it had a studder and acted like it was going to run out of gas at 5000rpms. they said nothing was wrong with it so i had a race kit put on and it didnt seem to do it anymore. Second time- the oil cooling fan barrings are going out , they had to order the part , well its on back order and still hasnt came in , so i got it back. Third time- im riding the bike look down and the bolts that hold the flang on from the header tho the motor have came off and the flang ended up stuck down around the header. so they fixed it and i got it back . Fourth time - i had the bike 5 days from the last time i picked it up ( never rode it the 5 days i had it back) , get on the bike ride it down the street and now its doing the studder again that it did the first time. it has been in the shop for 4 days and they still dont know what the problem is. The sales manager said he would give me my money back on the bike or maybe trade me for an R1 that they traded for earlier this month. MY question is should i take my money back, or should i trade for the R1 , or should i hold out and wait to see if they get the bugs out of the bike. Sorry for such a long post but i wanted you to feel the pain that im going thru. so please help me out and give me some info on what i should do . Thanks

well i think you need to figure out what you want.
you bought an xb12, not a r1, so it seems like you want a buell more than the literbike

id say see if you can just get a different bike, there has to be a lemon law in effect, look into it, see if you can get another bike identical, unfortunately sometimes there are bad seeds in every bunch, not everything is perfect

well i asked to see if i they could track down me another bike , but since my bike is a 2006 they cant do it . They only track down bike from other dealers if its NEW , and they dont have any other used bike that i could trade for. I really like the bike and the way it handles , its my second firebolt in the last 2 yrs , but im getting tired of not riding and at this point will just about take anything just to ride.

I would accept the refund. That gives you the most options, doesn't it?

It seems to me that this bike and dealer are not working out well for you.

Once your finances are back to the starting point, I would look for a more Buell capable dealer, starting with the sponsors of this board.

The 2008 model Buells will be announced next week, and there is rumor of an entirely new model. While I wouldn't bet on it, it perhaps it would be a good idea to wait a few days and see if there is something in the new lineup that is particularly appealing.

As far as trading your bike in for an R1. That is something that I would not be inclined to do.

The R! is a nice bike, but an entirely different experience, and I would wonder what was the matter with it, to be back on the market so soon.

Good Luck. I have had three Buells, and I have enjoyed each more than the other.

I agree. Accept the refund. I'm sure a sponsor on this board will deal with you. For me, four Buells and counting.

Sometimes mechanical things are just...well...cursed. It doesn't matter what you do, the car/bike/cement mixer/computer/etc. is just bad.

I would say that the dealer has done right by you offering you either (1)an identical model, (2)a full refund, or (3)a trade for a trade model of equivalent value.

I would say that finding the identical model as a 2006 is going to be difficult. I would say that trading for the R1 is also not the best option. You might be able to trade for an equivalent model for less money than they assign to it. With cash, you have options.

I would also wait for the 08 model announcement. You may be able to buy an 07 for the same price your 06 would have cost.

In any event, the dealership seems to be playing fair with you. I hate that they can't correct the bike, but sometimes no one can exercise the demons from a stricken machine.

well they dont have any other bike of equal or lesser value, and if i get an 07 model id have to come off cash out of pocket , and i really dont want to do that either, so it seems that i cant win for losing.

You said they would give you your money back. Do that and wait until the new 08s are revealed (if there is a new bike). Save for the difference. Or, get your money back and finance a new 07.

All I have to say is you are dealing with a great dealer. Any dealer that offers you a refund on a problematic bike stands behind their product and definitely cares about the customer. I think we all wish we had dealers like this.

You loved Buells before so I wouldn't see why you'd steer away from them this time. You have had two Buells - I take it the first was reliable and the second one wasn't. That's a 50/50 split. It could just be a lemon. All companies have a certain percentage of bad products. The third Buell could be the charm.

The final decision will probably be made with your heart, but it seems like you want another Buell so either take the refund and look for another 06 or pony up for the 07. Or you could wait for the 08s and see what does or doesn't change.
