stopped by my local shop today( not the HD dealer but someone who actually wants my business) to check into the lyndal pads. he found there are two different available. the gold racing pads that i've heard good things about on badweb, but there were also lyndal Z pads (a more general purpose pad) they had many of the same features as the other but required no break in. has anyone tried them or heard good or bad about them.
thanks to all

I like them...

My only gripe they didn't quite break in right the first time.... Had to sand them and redo it..

Al (of American Sport Bike) posted about them the other day. I don't have a link, but you can search his posts for the last couple weeks.

My Lyndall race pads were shagged after about 1200 miles. About 600 of that was on the freeway.

I don't know man. All these other cats talk about how they have more feel and they modulate better and all that but I have a pair that I broke in exactly according to the instructions and I'm not really impressed.

I guess I can kinda see what everyone's talking about when they say they have more feel. It's a more progressive stopping power and not grabby at all. I'm running mine with wave rotors and to tell you the truth, I miss the bite of the stock sintered pads. When I tap the brakes I prefer a very strong steeply progressive feel. I want power at my fingertips anotherwords. The Lyndall Golds just don't provide that for me. I mash on the fronts, feel the weight transfer, and then really have to put some pressure on the caliper to get some speed scrubbed off.

Basically, if you're into the touch thing, this may just be your bag. But I'm thinking I want my brakes as efficient as possible. I didn't drive up to riding sportbikes last week and I trust myself just fine with a touchy front brake. I don't know about you guys, but I ride aggressively in heavy traffic in the 4th largest city in the US. I want some freakin brakes when I grab for them. Sintered is more aggressive.

...just meeting my needs in the fast paced urban jungle. Court would surely chime in on the issues in heavy city traffic.

I do have to say however that I do like a carbon-kevlar rear brake setup. The feel back there is actually nice. The sintered pads lock up the rear tire too easy. My perfect setup is a set of sintered on the front and the Lyndall Golds on the back.

Was the other 600 on the track? I have about 6K on my Lyndall race pads and they have about 60% left.}

What is this talk of "breaking in" the Lyndalls? It says right on the back of the package (and I'm quoting because it's sitting here on my desk):

"No Break-in Required"

??? The back of mine said brake hard from 20MPH 10 times, and then brake hard from 40MPH 10 times, and then let them cool off a couple of hours. When I got done, they were smoking hot. I've always thought this would glaze them useless, but that's what the package said. Maybe they really are glazed and that's why I think they're a little on the weak side.

If I recall correctly Al said to follow the instructions, so I did despite having some reservations about ruining my new pads.

Bought Lyndal Golds. Lightly sanded boths side of rotor until it was smooth. Installed, bled the lines. Brakes work awesome withot the stuped vibration I was getting with stocks. They broke in just fine, like all break-ins I just took it easy on them for a few hundred miles. Bike stops great. Just my input.

No, but probably 50-100 on my favorite canyon road.

Really though... they were toast VERY fast. I checked them on a whim one day and they had all but disappeared. I swapped them out with an old set I had laying around because I figured one more trip to phx and they'd be gone. I then got a set of EBC "HH" pads on ebay for $30. I still like these the best (although I'll try set of the Nissin 804's next).

/EDIT -

Oh and I completely agree with your sentiments about the feel Tx05... The Lyndal race pads felt alright but the Golds were horrible wrt initial bite and lever feel. They were certainly progressive and easy to modulate but I don't need "easy" to modulate. I need to be able to feel that my tire is squirming as long as it's "easy enough" to modulate.
