i didnt ride my bike last year at all due to work and i had a completely dead battery this spring. I started the bike and it runs but sputters and coughs alot and after 300 miles, it will continue to hiccup through turns (scary)

do i need the tps reset?

Reset AFV:
Run for 10 minutes @ a near constant 3500 rpm. 5th gear hi-way.

If that dose not fix maybe look into a TPS reset.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a pinched wire from not paying attention when putting the battery back in.

An oil change might also be a good idea.
The condensation that builds up in the engine gets eliminated if you ride once in a while but if the bike just sits it just adds up... Also make sure you check the air filter. I've seen a post on another motorcycle related forum where mice had nested in the bike's airbox!
