My brother asked me why Buell still sells the Race ECM if they do not sell the race muffler. I had no answer for him...

If the race ECM was designed only for the Race muffler, why do they continue to sell it if the stock ECM can be remapped to most mufflers?

to make money, duh.

For most customers, its easier to buy the race ECM and filter and then buy an aftermarket muffler, than to get their stock ECM remapped.

Cause there is still a few used race mufflers out there, like the one I just got for mine.

I would guess, and it is a guess that:

The race muffler throws the bike out if noise or emissions compliance, and HD is getting away from selling that kind of stuff.
The ECM will not affect noise, and in closed loop probably does not hurt emissions.

Spatten is correct. They wont sell a non DOT approved muffler. The Race muffler is too loud to meet approval. The Race ECM doesn't effect the noise whatsoever, so they will still sell it : )

Okay, but is there an advantage in using a race ECM with the OEM muffler? According to the literature, the race ECM's have a map specifically designed for the Race Muffler, not the standard muffler as it does not use the interactive valve. So why continue selling something that is "not approved" for the stock muffler?

They are? So they will stop selling Screamin' Eagle exhaust for Harleys?

If they do that will blow me away. A lot of Harley guys are all about the-louder-the-better pipes!

They've stopped making SE mufflers that don't pass EPA noise levels for about 14 months now.

Wow. I was unaware of that. What's the EPA noise level? 98db?
