so my cityx went to the shop for its 1K service, first and last at the dealer. i had to argue with them to do the TPS reset, iwas told they don't do them because they are set at the factory and they are usually ok. my response was " its in my damn manual as part of my service so just do it"
wouldn't you know it when i returned to get my bike they informed me the TPS was off causing some of my stalling. so as i am eager to see how my bike is now running i start it up and let it idle while i look it over and make they didn't damage anything during service. i noticed that my chin spoiler looked a bit shakey. they had forgotten 6 out of 7 bolts that hold it on. i told the service guy he took the bike in and about ten minutes laterand said "just some missing bolts , you shoulld be all set" so i responded " as long as they didn't forget any that are actually important." i spent 20 minutes combing over my bike and all looked good.

On a side note i have heard from bad webbers the TPS reset can make a difference...wow this thing is like a whole different bike!

I constantly find loose fasteners on my bike, so I constanty go around and tighten them. It's always a good thing to give any bike a "hands on" inspection. Breaking down on a bike is so much more aggrivating than breaking down in a car.

Use loktite for ONLY the bolts that you do not want to fall off...

How long should I expect my first service to take, is it within a day or do I have to leave my bike over night? I hoping it's something I can just sit and wait to be done.

My suggestion would be get the manual and do it yourself.

Unless you have a VERY GOOD DEALERSHIP where they actually KNOW BUELL'S near you, I would stay away from the Stealerships.

They are Bad Voodoo....

...and dealers NEVER remember to use the nylon washers, either.

Did you put in petroleum oil or synthetic?

I put in synthetic at my first service and now I regret it. My Buell never ate oil with petroleum oil in it, but now it drinks Syn3 like it's going out of style!

maybe my point was missed.... the bolts didn't fall out the tech forgot to put them back on! and yes i checked the nylon washers are not there.

Hi;
Posted here last week reguarding the fork oil change and the TPS reset on my new TT
I wasn't happy to find out from a dealer,that it would cost me $400-$500 every 10000 miles for this service. At 30k a year, I felt it was excessive. When I asked about doing it myself, said it could void the warranty. So I talked to the dealer that sold me the bike, they did not know anything about it. They only reset the TPS if the bike does not run well or they put a race kit on it. As for the forks, I don't think they have ever serviced them, didn't know it was in the manual. They said to wait to 20,000 or till I had a problem.
Two dealers, two different thoughts.

1+ on get the manual and do it yourself. On my 1000 mile service the dealer put 3 full quarts in. I guess they thought all sporty engines took 3 quarts!

I found 3 out of 4 airbox cover bolts loose with one of the bottom bolts backed out all the way with the seat keeping it from blowing away, @ 180 miles on it now.

Use loktite for ONLY the bolts that you do not want to fall off...

It doesn't look like these had any loktite on them from the factory or the $1080 delivery/dealer prep I was charged for}...

Usually, an engine that's hasn't been spec'd with syn oil from the start has to go through a break in period first before syn oil can be used. The petroleum oil allows the rings to seat with the cylinders causing them to seal. If this isn't allowed to happen the syn oil is allowed past the oil ring and the engine will "eat" oil. How long is long enough? That tends to very with the engine. 10k - 15 k is a good number for most cars, but with the aircooled engine in the Buell, I would tend to think the break in time would be shorter than that. I am going to switch after my 3rd service interval.
