Ok the X1WL is sold, and I am looking into a 12R. There are options.. a used 2005, or a new 2007. the 2005 has only 65 miles. What is the mechanical difference between the years...what should I be lookin for?

I'd go with the 07. Better, stronger belt that should last the lifetime of the bike (you have to replace the 05 belt at 25,000 mile intervals). 5,000 service interval vs. 2,500 miles, and a clutch that doesn't require forearms like Popeye in traffic.

Plus, the transmission on the 07 is really slick. The transmission on the 05 will clunk like a... well... like a HARLEY!

There are some very useful improvements in the 2007.

Not sure if I have all of them, but I believe there is an easier shifting gearbox, an upgraded belt, changed airbox, and a number of other running upgrades.

That being said, a 2005 with 65 miles, is probably still under warranty, and very often these bikes can be bought for much, much less than a new one.

I think that they represent a much better value because useful as the upgrades are, the character, handling and speed of the bike is really unchanged.

Personal preference plays a big role too. Some people never buy used motor vehicles, others, like me, almost never buy a new one.

they have many changes between the 2 but id say if the 05 only has 65 miles on it and is cheaper go with the 05 besides who said a work out on ur left hand was a bad thing, just means u will have to work the right one out a little more if you dont already.....

so a $4000 difference... DECISIONS DECISIONS

Ha! No decision here. USED! For the $4k difference have them install a Muller/Mueller (sp?) Clutch arm ($150-$160) for easier clutch pull and buy the $40 inner airbox cover. That gives you the balance for riding gear, track days, and oh yeah, around 2 years less of bank payments! Like I said, no decision here.

Come to think of it, didn't Buell switch to the easier clutch pull in '05?

I thought '04 was the last year for the "harder" clutch pull. I have an '04, the clutch pull isn't that bad, just easier with the new set up.

Even if you don't like the color of the used bike, You can buy new plastics for $300-$400 for the complete set.

ok black belt has or had rather a x1 so i would assume (correct me if i am wrong) that the x1 would have just as hard if not a harder clutch than that of an 05 xb so i fail to see were paying $4000 more fo a new clutch would be justifyable.

Get the 05!!!!!!!

The 05 will have a two year transferable warranty.

You need to find out when it was sold originally to see when the warranty will expire. Your dealer can easily get this information from the vin number.

With any luck at all, you might have a year or more on your bike, as it might have been sold originally in 2006.

The clutch pull thing is really no biggie.

Many guys who complain about the clutch just need to lubricate their clutch cable and the little part that goes into the clutch lever itself which gets corroded easily and stops rotating as it should.

The rest are wussies.

I would go for the '05, and buy the missus a 2003 XB9S with the savings!

LIO: That might be something they forgot to update in the manual. Every other piece of literature (including Fuell, and interviews with Erik) indicate the '06 and newer belts are a lifetime proposition.

Gentleman_jon: I thought the two year warranty wasn't introduced until '06 too?
