So the first bike I ever actually drove myself was a 07 Honda CBR600RR...and that's what made me fall in love with riding but Ive always loved the look of the XB#R. But lately I've been looking at the CBR and I think I really wont one of those instead...Now I don't have a Buell or any other bike for that matter but I have seen a White XB(i think)9R here in Redding California. Now this could be just a drunk thing but if it isn't then...well then it was nice talking with you guys and I love how helpful you guys are. |

Maybe I can help. --- Been there done that. I've owned one of each at one point in time in my life. Want a thrill, get a Buell. Thunder my friend, Thunder! You won't get that from a rice burner. There's Nothing like it. I've been to Redding Via Reno. Want to enjoy the ride through the mountains, you gotta have a Buell. Learn how to corner that bike and you'll have them all whooped. Wanna go fast get a Busa, wanna go fast around the corners, get a Buell. Nuff said! |

alls i can say is, i've had a few friends in the past few months trade bikes with me for a few miles. one had a CBR954, one had a 636, and one has a ZX-10R. all three of them have either sold their bikes and bought a buell or bought a buell in addition to their IL4. that says a lot to me. just my .02 |

If you're new to riding, neither of those bikes are going to be appropriate. |

especially 299 and highway 36 are a blast on my 9S......if you want something different, get a buell...chicks dig it...besides there's enough Squids in Redding... |

"If you're new to riding, neither of those bikes are going to be appropriate." +1 The only person that will tell you a supersport 600 is okay for a 1st bike is the guy trying to sell it to you.Or a squid. Get a Ninja 250R, thrash it for a year, sell it the following year for a pretty penny. You will have no problem selling a used 250R in CA. And a MSF course does wonders.... |

HAHA Squids, that's funny. Ive already looked into insurance and it wasn't any more then when I had my SRT-4. I'm not really all that worried about going fast on a bike. Id much rather just be able to get out there and enjoy my life, ya know? When I started thinking about getting a bike, my first thought was a Blast. With its nice low seat I can flat foot (I was on the balls of my feet on the CBR) and learn to ride on that little beast and then once I'm ready I was gonna go for the 9R. I've looked at those Ninja 250's and....I honestly cannot get over how ugly they are lol. And a MSF course is definitely in the plans. |

They are both good bikes. Heres the difference. A Buell everyone looks at and asks questions, Honda is just another sport bike. Not to mention the support you can get from this site. Good luck and enjoy |

I think you have the right idea. Get a Blast and take the riders course. Used Blasts seem to be around now and then if you want to save some money. |

Buster, to be honest Ive looked on here and there really isn't all that much support for the Blasts'. It seems all the support is for the XB's. |

I suggest ignoring any "suggestions" and buy whatever floats your boat. But please don't ignore my suggestion of ignoring said suggestions.? Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?... |

Ugh Thumper forum is way to complicated. Ive been reading that those are really easy to outgrow, skill wise. If thats true then Ill just get a 9r cause I learn and pick up on things very quickly. |

Here's to hoping you are not picking yourself up off the pavement. The XB's in my opinion are real riders bikes, if you are not a comfortable rider, they tend to accentuate the flaws in your riding style. I have come across a number of posts here with guys getting an XB for the first bike and making several trips to the emergency room. A 500cc is a GOOD investment! just my $.02 |

I am a fan of the start small and work your way up to the big. I think you learn how to ride better with out worrying about keeping the front tire on the ground, or spitting the rear tire out. Not to mention its always cool getting a new bike and seeing how much faster it is then your last. 83 Yamaha XZ 550 Vision 87 Yamaha FZX 700 Fazer 06 Buell XB 984 Lighting. So I think my next will be a 12 firebolt. but that will be in a few years I still love my lighting |

I beg to differ, if you are a safe driver/rider and not a squid an XB is just fine. I took the MSF class (Riders Edge at the Harley dealership) passed the course, got my license and ordered a XB9SX. It is my first motorcycle. I couldn't see going through the hassle of buying a used bike, insuring it, then turning around and selling it then going through the buying process again. Seemed like too much of a hassle for me. The problems I've had have been because of other drivers. (1 rear end incident at a stoplight due to inattention by the driver and another guy backing up in a parking lot and not checking his mirrors) |

Alright, Blast it is. Then after that it'll either be a 9s with an r front end or just a good ol' fashion 9r. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Dustin, lets get real here, these guys on the forum have good intentions but,get yourself any Buell other than a blast. Blast are good reliable bikes, but they are not something you can be proud to ride.Any R or S or old tuber will be cool. |

To be honest, I didn't plan on keeping the blast for more then a month. Or just long enough to get my motorcycle license and a little bit longer to gain a little more about the road. Just out of curiosity how much lower is the XB#SL compared to the regular S? |
Froggy

There is no XB#SL, i guess you mean the SCG, its 1.5" lower. Only a month on a small bike? Unless you put at least 10k miles on it in that month, i doubt it would be enough experience. |

I couldn't remember if it was a 9 or a 12 so I put a number sign. A month was an understatement. I would keep the bike until I was comfortable. Where I live I have every kind of riding, and like I said before I learn quickly...very quickly. |

be mindful of your confidence, young pado-wan. one of the fastest motorcycle riders i have the pleasure of riding with (read "behind") made a great point. he says he'll hop up his XB12R when he can ride to the full potential it has stock. it's still stock after 35 THOUSAND miles. get comfortable, and learn quickly. but know that there is absolutely no substitute for experience. cause once you make the mistake of say...letting off the throttle when the rear tire breaks loose and highsiding at 3mph, you won't do that the next time. it's automatic. you can't learn automatic. neither can i. that bein' said. i say get what you want the first time, be it a 12R, go ahead. just respect it. maybe even fear it a little. and strive to protect it from your own stupidity. |

Hey Dustin. Just want to share my thoughts on the Blast/XB choices. I started out on a dirtbike at 8. The moped thing at 14. Motorcycle license since 16. A few different bikes over the last 15 years, but not consistent. Hadn't owned one for about 10 years. I got a Blast this past November. LOVED it! Well, just a few weeks ago I got an 03 XB9R. Bonded with it very well from Tampa to Chattanooga(600 miles?) LOVE it! Had been riding it since I got it. Rode the Blast over the weekend, can't neglect the poor thing: ) Oh man, just not the same. It just doesn't have the same get up and go the XB has. But I wouldn't have traded in the time I had on the Blast. I got very comfortable with it and felt good about riding again. Now I feel pretty good about being on the XB. So I say - go get that Blast and have fun and keep your eye out for your XB! |

Yeah I guess I was a little cocky there. I know that the Blast would be a great idea to get first and learn and get more comfortable with being on 2 wheels. I know no matter what kind of bike I get I'll be afraid of it for the most part at first and even still after I get many more miles under my belt. (haha get it belt..sorry). I mean when I rode my buddies CBR600RR i was pretty comfortable riding it...besides the fact my mini-mes were getting a little crunched until I figured out the proper place to put them lol. In a car I've always been comfortable with speed, granted its COMPLETELY different on a bike. That I know from experience after getting up to 95ish on that bike scared the blazes out of me but gave me the rush of a life time and I loved it and that's where the want for a 9r came into play. Well I wanted one before just because they looked and sounded more bad ass then anything I've ever seen. Before I had a fast car I had a slow one to hone my driving skills then got the faster one and developed them even further... Time to start using the head on my shoulders haha. Its the blast for me. (with a 44 magnum kit haha just kidding) |
