Well I'm gonna tear into it tomarrow so any advice? I think the hardest part will be the front pulley/sprocket. Did I read that it was left hand thread? And do I need to go get a torque wrench or can you really get that big nut on the front sprocket too tight? | ||

Yeah, its left threaded. I don't think a torque wrench is going to help you much. Air tools will, but use air tools w/transmission in nuetral. | ||

I converted from 03 to 05 on my XB9R. Not a difficult job as long as you have all the parts. front/rear sprockets Belt Pulley front sprocket cover new rear pulley bolts and new upper/lower guard The biggest problem i had was to get the front sprocket off. It is indeed it is left handed thread and you will probably need an impact wrench or at least a very long leverage bar since the torque speck is 200 Ft-lbs. I had a heckuva time with it aggravated by the fact I did not know it was left handed so I tightened it more first. Once the front sprocket is taken care of the rest is pretty easy Have fun.. and yes, you will need front/rear stands and the help of a friend with the 200ft-lbs sprocket thing Cheers Asbjorn | ||

why new rear pulley bolts? I have everything else. And what did you guys tighten the front pulley nut with impact, big rachet by feel, or torque wrench? And is it ok to let the front pulley spin while removing it as long as it's in neutral? (Message edited by danman2540 on June 08, 2007) | ||

I bought my conversion kit from American Sportbike and it came with the bolts. I am not sure why. Probably ok to reuse the ones you have. Have fun! Asbjorn | ||

Are you kidding me? I can see not reusing the muffler clamps, but they're just bolts in the rear pulley. Is it ok to reuse my drain plug when I change my oil??? | ||

Hey,thats up to you but the manual doesn't tell you to throw away your drain plug after use.  | ||

I can see not reusing the muffler clamps, but they're just bolts in the rear pulley. Pulley bolts take alot of abuse and the recommendation to change them is a precaution just in case they might break. One breaks it could posibly lock up your rear wheel. These bolts are the ones that transmit 80 or so foot ponds of torque to the ground. They get a bit more workout than the drainplug. I'm guessing, but I believe the bolts are carrying the load by relieving shear stress by being in tension, so once the tension is relieved, perhaps the material is spent ( second torque down to achieve the tension puts the material in yield). Oh missed a question you asked about the pulley spinning. No you shouldn't let the pulley spin. If it spins so is the shaft your trying to remove the nut from. Keep the pulley from spinning. | ||
