I'll be buying a new XB12 soon and the first couple of years will be spent down here in tropical SW FL, read afternoon thunderstorms all summer, like the one happening right now. Been following the commuter thread, and am not too concerned with rain.
If I don't trade it off for a 2010, it'll be living in a floating 52', go anywhere wet, multihull sailboat. The 'garage' on the boat will have AC, so the bike is not going to be out in the open.
I went through the KV and found the SS fastener list. Searched "rust" and didn't find much...
So my concern is what else might need maintaining or protecting other than the usual stuff. You guys that have had your bikes apart find anything that needed repainting, etc?
Lots of aluminum and plastic are fine with me....

Thx
Mark

If you park the bike in a nice, quiet garage and listen real hard, you'll hear the stock muffler rusting...

I had fastener corrosion when tearing down the engine, where aluminum and steel were joined. Was a PITA, burned a lot of time, but nothing major, just frozen stuff.

Happens with the axles too, so use antiseize when doing work.
