Guys, In the last few rides I've noticed that my trans seams to be shifting weird. I noticed that it started shifting from 3rd to 4th real hard, sometimes. I've also noticed that, just today, it will shift without the clutch. I found this out by accident. My boot string got caught on the shifter peg and it shifted as I lifted my boot off the foot peg. Scared the crap out of me. Anyway it shifted pretty easy and no clunk, it sounded like the clutch engaged while it pulled up. So this time I did it on purpose, and it did it real easy. What gives. It has 1500 miles on it. I changed out my trans fluid to the screaming eagle synthetic oil around 1000 miles and adjusted my clutch according to the book. Any thoughts, are there any recalls on the trans. One reason that I bought the 06 is because of the easier shifting compared to the old. Thanks

If you have a good dealer they should fix you right up. My dealer sucks (it may be the service writer who isn't working the best) but they tore my engine apart last night, got to the tranny and found the fork that controls 3-4 was "off" and they will be fixing me up soon. I'd suggest the same.

I mentioned my service writer because the guy I went to at the shop never returns calls, never tries to push people, and has a bad attitude. I am not the only one he's tried to push around either.

Bigbuell,

I shift without the clutch all the time. I have been able to do this on all my bikes including metric. This should not be something to worry about. The 3-4th problem may be an issue. You may check with some other Buellers here first. May be something simple.

Cochise,
Welcome to the world of HD dealers...most of them suck and act the way you described. My low fuel light has been on for .....well about 10k miles. Its a real pain but i refuse to take it and have some tech tear my bike down to figure out whats wrong and have it sit there and wait on a part for weeks. There are a few good dealers and those are listed here as sponsors on this site.

My 06 9SX was shifting very poorly lately (the last 1500 miles). It would feel almost stuck in gear during up shifts, and down shifts were just extremely tough. I had about 6000 miles on it and deiced to change the trans fluid. It was pretty nasty real black and a little bit of metal on the magnet drain plug and a little bit of sparkles in the fluid. But I put in some new fluid (Formula+) and it is shifting extremely well now.

I think the 10000 intervals for between trans fluid changes is way off. Being that the Primary and trans takes barely a quart, It gets real nasty real quick, I think I am gonna change it every 5000.

Yeah, my usual dealer is Joplin Cycle Connection, a sponsor here and also a sponsor of my Buell Club. Joplin was going to come from an hour away to pick up my bike, fix it, then get it to me the following Tuesday. That was last Tuesday, I would have had my bike back but I needed it done sooner than that and my service writer told me it would be. Well it wasn't and isn't. I changed service writers and he is actually getting things taken care of.

I have 8000+ miles on my Ss and the shifting is really smooth and effortless while wearing my Alpinestars boots. If I'm in my shoes it feels like my big toe's breaking.

It might be overkill but I change my oil, both engine and trans every 4000 miles with Screaming Eagle.

I would check your primary chain adjustment. It can cause rough shifting if it is too tight, and it seems to be be a common thing for them to be overtightened.
