I just put on my Jardine Carbon Fiber slip on the other day and it sounds awesome but I forgot to ask in a recent post...what is that cable that was hooked into the stock pipe? I called the harley dealer and asked what to do with it and they said to just basically stuff it up under the bike? Is not having this cable hooked up gonna hurt my bike? This is probably a repetitive post but spending 8600 on a new bike i'm gonna ask!!!!! |

It was to open and close the valve in your old pipe. They actually told you the right thing to do. You can however remove the cable, but leave the actuator. If you remove the actuator your engine light will come on. If you want to get rid of the actuator, American Sportbike has an emulator. |

Don't you just love the way your dealer goes out of his way to explain things? That cable connects a servo located on the top of the inner air box to the servo valve on the stock muffler. You can "just stuff it" , as you dealer suggests, but most people either remove the entire cable, or the cable and the servo motor. If you remove the servo motor, the check engine light will go on, as the computer senses that the servo motor is not working. There are two fixes: 1. Order a servo emulator from American Sport Bike, one of our sponsors, 2. Replace your ECM with the Buell race ECM. This does not activate the servo motor, so the engine light wont go on. In addition, it will change the fuel map to one that will work better with your new muffler. Adding a "competition " air filter like the Buell or K+N will complete the package of improve breathing into and out of the engine. PS: here is a very recent thread on the subject: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/280768.html?1180561939 (Message edited by gentleman_jon on May 30, 2007) |

Gentlemen Jon is right. Get the proper ECM for your bike. This will allow your bike to run properly. |

Of course you already know that once you install the new ECM, you will need to have the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) reset by your dealer, or a Bad Webber who has the software, right? What most guys do is ride down to the dealer's with the old ECM in place, and then install the new one in the parking lot, and then have the dealer reset it using their machine. Trying to run your bike without resetting the TPS is not a good idea: often it won't run at all, and if it does run the chances of it running properly are extremely small. |
