I am taking my vacation after the memorial day - hopefully less RV traffic- you never know!

So I am planning on 4 days

one day Drive in from my home (8 hours)

Gonna go here: http://www.google.com/maps?q=Big+Bend+National+Park,+TX,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

Holed up in Marathon, Tx which is 100 mile or so away.

Day two is to unload the bike and ride from Chisos Mountain Lodge throughout Big Bend Park

and Day 3 is Chisos to Terlingua/ :Lajitas to Presidio, TX

Great weather is expected- hope your weather is ride friendly (or was if you are working now)

There is no internet where I am going so I will post pics from the last 3 days when I get back to home

By the way- not to sound "froofy or high brow" but I could have brought a different bike for this trip, but the BUELL is the perfect bike. Lots of twisties, ups/ downs/ drop offs and beauty to enjoy with a rocking thrumming v-twin that mkaes it all the better.

CHEERS!

Internet at the Chisos Mountain Lodge!

I can imagine you all are RIVETED to your computer screens DYING for an update...

Well, you prayers have been answered@!

This pic made go HUH?- This park is at the "end of the earth" and yet we must bring along our HOUSE with US.

This camp site is at the southern most eastern corner of the park. Literally 150 miles away from the nearest town. Solitude? Peaceful thoughts- HELL NO WWF widescreen BABY!!

Here is a pic a the southwestern most point in the park- 1 mile from Mexico border. This is an old horse drawn boiler used for sawmill works, water pumping, etc- turn of the century stuff. Apparently this on has a 3 foot hole in the side I did not photograph (100F- thanks) but apparently it let go with a loud BANG! and maybe a few souls...

Here is the XB taking a break in Terelingua, TX- home of desperados adn out laws> ok now it's just the home of blown out recluses and fried out hippies- nothtat there is anything wrong with that....

Here is the "town" other wise...where is the WALMART, THE HOME DEPOT???

HAHAHAHA

As I am sure most all of you are ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEATS- awaiting day 3 update> well here ya go!

Rode out to Lajitas and then on to Presidio: Two towns with much in common including a US/ Mexican border, a river and a ROAD- SH 170. 50 miles of twisty undulating mostly clear and gripy black top. Did need to put the quick turning Buell action into play – dodging big critter poop in the road, a dead javalina with its buzzard accompaniment> actually used a lot of brake on that one…
Here are some tee pees along the way. Nice picnic area. Nice of the highway department to paint them since I last visited. Very Native American Chic.

This gives an idea of the FUN this road is. Had a couple of Harley guys ask me what my bike was…er, no kidding. I told them and I got the polite “oh, huh…” conversation ending reply. Am I the only guy in the world that reads motorcycle magazines and looks around at a bike dealer!?

These worked GREAT

Don’t leave home without on of these either!

So there it is, 500 miles or so of toasty scenery (park lady said 105 today). I had some serious BONDING TIME with the Buell. Where ever your bike is now- go give it a hug, or a pat, or an affectionate look.

This bike is WACKY COOL! AMEN!

Thanks for sharing the ride! Gotta agree on the beauty of Big Bend and Hwy 170 from Study Butte to Presidio. I stayed in Alpine for several days (stay at the Holland Hotel and enjoy their micro brewery) last year and made several trips down to the National Park and explored as many roads as possible. My favorite is perhaps the loop around the Davis Mountains on Hwy 118/166 in Jeff Davis county...clockwise or counterclockwise...it's all good. In July the wife and I will be spending 2 weeks in the region so I can show off the beauty of West Texas to her, even have her permission to look for a house/property in the area! Thanks again for the travelogue: )
