I'm looking to "upgrade' my '03 side stand to this new setup. Problems I see: Mine is an "L" model, is there a Low sidestand with the bigger hole? What about the switch, will it bolt to the new "Dowel" or do I just eliminate it? Anybody got some part numbers for these items? I think the local Stealer doesn't like to devote any time to Buell stuff...So numbers help greatly. I'm still surprised they carry the line(one other dealer in the area already dropped Buell... Unfortunately).
TIA

I just called my dealer, and they only have a recall for the Uly.

Is non Uly owners, if we want to upgrade will have to buy it.

I do have the old style, but it's been holding up good for a year. I'm just gonna make that a pre-ride and after ride checklist.

I Just can't see it backing out completely on a single ride.

it doesnt have to back out completely to shear off, i had one back off just a little and when i put the stand down and leaned the bike over, i felt the bike give- the pivot bolt had snapped. just look at the pivot bolt where the threads are, and see how small in diameter it is will scare you. maybe someone can post a pic of the pivot bolt beside the new 07 style pivot pin.

mine broke, and parts were backordered for four months. so i acquired one off of another lightning. only one problem....
our kickstand is longer than the regular lightning kickstand. found that out when my bike leaned over way further than it used to.

I just ordered the '07 sidestand assembly for my '04. It was $48 but at least I shouldn't have to worry about it any more. They said it would arrive in a week.

" part no. ""L1167.02A8 SIDESTAND LEG SERVICE KIT""

Does this part number replace the whole leg and joint or is it just the bolt pin to hold it together?

Did all XB12's go to the new Style? I have a 2006 XB12Scg ... do they have a standard XB12 side stand or a shortened stand? So would a 2007 XB12cg have the new style sidestand? Anyone have the parts I would need to do the swap on a CG? Thanks ..

Here are my before and after pics on my 2006 CityX. I really didn't think I had the problem - glad I checked. Thanks guys for the heads up.

Before (Note the gap between the nut and the sidestand):

After:

Hope these help you understand the problem better. Now that I look closer at the after pics, I think I realize how close I was to failure.

What if you drilled out the old stand and retro fitted the new pin with the E-clip? Would this work?

My brand new '06 xb9r with 20 miles had the bolt backed out by about 1/8". Just put some loctite in and tightened it. I'll probably get the '07 stand, though. Glad I came upon this thread!

After reading this in June, I took my bike in to have it serviced and I had them check it at that time. They told me there was no problem with my bike nor had they had any issues with others.

Two weeks ago, my bolt sheared on the way to work. When I got there, it felt funny going on the stand and, having read this and being aware of the history, I identified the problem and took it to the shop. Turns out the '06 stand is "obsolete." They will not admit to having a problem with it BUT they replaced it with an '07 AND detailed my bike for free.

Thanks for warning me about this issue and possibly saving my pride in the process!
