recently a local used bike shop in my area has begun to sell new bikes, a line made by HYOSUNG. these things are scary! they are cheaply made and sell for very little which brings me to the concerning part. every inexperienced kid is now buying one and tearing around town on them as if they are on the track, so they can look way too cool for their buddies. these kids are quickly becoming more dangerous than the cagers. at least i can anticipate what the cars are gonna do but the kids on these little cheap rockets are all over the place with very little regard for whats going on around them.....i've been riding for over 20 years and have a lot of respect for my machines and what the are capable of doing and not doing...but the overall quality of these bikes and the quality of rider they are selling them to scares me....to all my fellow bad webbers have a great holiday and be safe out there. | ||

It's called natural selection. It's good for the planet. The Hyosung's are decent bikes, they're basically SV650's. You can still get a Suzuki SV650 cheaper though. Then rip around town like a maniac. | ||

I took my MSF course on a Hyosung 250, it was a cheap little bike, impossible to find neutral, very difficult to shift, and squirrelly if you push it too hard in the corners. They also had to keep the battery charger hooked up to it when it wasn't in use because it would drain the battery sitting for months. The frame was made of 1/2 inch square tubing, this thing would shatter if it ever hit anything. | ||

they are so much worse than the sv's they overall quality of these things is way inferior. and hey if they want to take themselves out on them be my guest but our families are out on these streets and thats where its not funny. i guess my main point was that such a cheap price made being an ass way more accessible. | ||

I honestly don't get the point of these "I've been riding 85 years and so I feel the need to get up on my soapbox" threads. None of the other Buell sites I visit have this attitude and I wodner why it exists on Badweb. Maybe it's an older demographic here. I looked at Hyosongs out of curiosity. Would I buy one? Hell no. Are they unsafe and ready to fall apart at any moment? No, or I doubt that the government would let them be sold here. Don't bikes have to pass some safety regulations to get approved for street use? Plus, the Hyosungs are only a couple of thousand cheaper than Jap bikes and I see more "kids" on Jap bikes than on Hyosungs. I have to say I've never seen a Hyosung on the street yet, but I see dozens of Jap bikes every day. So is this thread to vent about "kids" on bikes or low-quality bikes? Both of these have always existed. It's just that more people are into motorcycling right now because it's a popular thing to do. Once the stunting thing wears off on the "I wanna be cool and get girls too" people, they will leave the sport. Now I'm not saying all stunters are like this. In fact, I mean the opposite. Stunters are in it for the love of the sport, not because it's a fad. Give China and Korea about 10 years. They'll be at least up to the quality of the US and they'll probably be closer to Jap standards. Take Kia and Hyundai as two great examples of what kind of products these countries can make. Think back to the early Japanese boxes that came over here. They were laughable unreliable pieces of crap. Now look at Japan - they're dominating the US and the rest of the world in quality and sales, including motorcycles. | ||

"Cheap rice burners scare me" That is exactly what I said in 1960 when I saw my first Honda CA72. That would be the boxie fendered bike known as the Honda (wet) Dream. I also remember my 1963 Yamaha YDS2 (Catalina), my old Triumph buddies busted my chops until I blew them off. Those Korean bikes will probably do just fine. Remember different strokes etc. | ||

i did not intend this to be a soap box post...although it may have come off that way. kids are kids and the are gonna screw around, we've all done it. but take a good look at these bikes and you might see what i mean...the quality is very low. the dealer that is selling these is right around 3,000 for a 600cc IL4 sv knock-off thats pretty cheap. and i'm sure they need to pass some sort of building standard they're definatley not exceeding it in any way. pushing the abilties of ourselves and our bikes is what keeps it exciting, but these bikes IMHO shouldn't be pushed very far and their riders need to know that. | ||

but take a good look at these bikes I have been, for the last 2 years... They're a pretty fair and attractive alternative to the 250 Ninja (and you could level these same complaints against it too). | ||

If it has 2 wheels and makes noise, I like it. Unless it's one of those wedding cake OuCCh Choppers. I don't get those but I still wave. | ||

I think they are great entry level bikes. Not too much power, inexpensive, light. If you want 20 year old males to quit raising hell on motorcycles you will have to do more than eliminate Korean models. They have to be safer than the kz400 I started on. | ||

these things are scary! meh, scary is the 105 yr old lady I saw crawl out of the A&W and into her 2 ton Buick at lunch today. Gotta give her some credit tho - she did check her mirrors, and drove off too slow to do too much damage... | ||
