I bought this new in 1974, rode it for 5 years then let it deteriorate. 4 years ago I did a total resto on it and use it as my "around town" bike.

And its Bad Azz. Talk about a classic. Speaking of old bikes... my brother has 73 Kawi ZR1 900 he bought new. Its been sitting I'd say 20 years now and its rough but all there. Keep trying to pry it from him but no luck yet but I'll get it one day. |

Hey Bake.........Do tell, do tell more about the bars and what else you needed to make em work. I'm very interested in doing something like that to my 12R also. Might you have a parts list handy? Looks badazz man! |

What do "fat bars" accomplish exactly? Cord |

I would also like to know what parts were needed and how much the total was. could you post some more pics? Also, How does it feel? This could be a cheaper option to helibars... |

Those bars are behind the forks and up higher than the helibars so you would be able to sit up without reaching, more like a lighting. I have the helibars and am very happy with them. |

It starts off with the S top tree, (I got mine here cheap)I used a S front brake line as well as S throttle cables all purchased here as well. The Precission Engineerings adapter which was around $65 but.... there were some interferemce problems with the brake master cylinder and the fairing. I solved it by taking out the fairing top mount bolt, loosening the bottom mount bolt and tilting the fairing forward as much as possible. A dremel tool was used to slot out the top mount holes, (I am also hopeing that tipping the fairing forward help my touring windshield shed air better) Placing the master cylinder inboard on the bar will allow it to go inside the fairing a bit as well, without making the levers feel uncomfortable. The last purchase item is you fatbars, mine were about $80. Depending on your bars you may not need to alter the fairing mount but it's definatery a close one. This is my solution to the ignition mount, it didn't cost anything but time. (Message edited by bake on May 27, 2007) |
