i really intended to write this earlier. A week or so ago i received my second order of buell stuff from American sport bike. Just some spark plugs for my wife's soon (fingers crossed) to be arriving cityx, and some bar end mirrors. I had put a bit of stress into thinking of just what i was going to use to fill the holes where the mickey mouses came out of, and as i pulled the mirrors from their packaging i see little plugs scotch taped to the packaging. This is exactly the kind of completely unexpected service that will keep me not only coming back for anything i need that they carry but also make sure to rave to anyone i can about just how great an operation Al and the rest are running over there.

and ps to Al should he wander past this.. Please let me know whenever you finish a key remap for a d&d on the 12 (open airbox of course)

Oh and Jackelfox,

I'm going to be headed to SLC area in about 3 weeks to see my sis get married, I'll be there for almost 2 weeks, definitely bringing the bike, so we should set up a ride! I think I got Noisycricket in on it (provided his bike is ok from getting banged up) and I may be able to round up a few more. Let me know and we'll set something up!

Yeah,

You have to search for Jackelfox in the XB section and then, click the link to this thread.

Jackelfox - you might edit the thread title to add some words like Props to American Sport Bike - sumpin like that. That way "Props to" could take the person to this thread and "American Sport Bike" would take them to Al's website.

Al is an awesome guy, vendor, rider and supporter of the riding community - especially Buells.

The "automatic link" thingy is a feature of Badweb that gets in the way sometimes. If you put in A S B with the letters together or type it in by name - it automatically creates a link.

Give a title change a try. Add a couple words.

It's a BadWeB trick. Typing "ASB" in a post or thread title will generate "American Sport Bike".

To avoid that you can type A\black{SB} instead. : )

Al and Joanne at American.Sport.Bike are THE very best! When I ordered rear brake pads, the parts were on my doorstep when I arrived home from work the very next day! I can't get that kind of mail-order service from dealers around here no matter how much I want to pay.

Hmmm, thinkin' outside the box here, but suppose BMC were to set up an online parts enterprise. They could authorize American Sport Bike to carry Buell parts. Imagine, looking up any part you wanted from the factory online parts catalog and having it on your doorstep the next day.

Does any manufacturer do that? If not, that would be WorldWideCool if we could!

Thanks for the good words, folks. Blake has it right..

We try to get orders out the same day we receive them, it's a priority. I keep a pretty serious amount of inventory on hand in order to do this, probably more Buell parts than any Buell dealer in the country. But backorders are inevitable on some items, at least until I figure out how to predict the future so I can anticipate when we're about to get three orders in a day for a part that we typically sell one per month.

I'm here on Saturday trying to get even close to caught up after being gone to the Sonoma AMA races last weekend for a few days. We're a bit of a victim of our own successes, we're getting more call traffic than I can possibly process. I'm generally successful at answering all my emails, but dialing back every missed call and message Joanne writes down is not occurring, there's just too many of them. I can answer mails at 10PM PST, but I can't make return calls at that time. Folks are using us as an extension of Buell Tech Support, I easily spend a couple hours each day answering tech questions for folks that are unrelated to our product sales. I don't mind doing it, other than the fact that I can't possibly help the number of callers that are trying to get through while still filling all orders and answering all emails.

So, bottom line, if you need to reach me, use email or keep calling until you actually get to talk to me.

Thanks for your support,
Al

I haven't ordered from American Sport Bike yet, but if I do need to order something I won't hesitate purely because of all the great feedback American Sport Bike and Al get from the people on this site and the other Buell sites.

Me too! Al and Joanne have gone way beyond the call of duty to help me. After I bought my XB, the learning curve was really steep and I had LOTS of questions. Al always took time to field the call and was really patient even though he had lots of other things to take care of. Thanks for making all of our Buell experiences better! P.S. - how's that beta for the XB12-Drummer-Open Air Box re-map coming? LOL

+1 On what everyone else said!!!!

There really are no words to describe how well one gets treated with Al AND Joanne.

They are a pretty big Co., and when you call you would think they were a "Mom and Pop" shop.

They know who you are after only a few calls and you feel part of there family when speaking to them.

Very few companies impress me, Especially with all the Automation and Poor Customer Service with larger Co. now a days.

IMO American Sport Bike goes well beyond The Call Of Duty and There Service Is Second To None!

I could write a full page on my VERY EXCELLENT experiences with American Sport Bike.

"They are a pretty big Co., and when you call you would think they were a "Mom and Pop" shop."

Eric,
Thanks for the good words. The internet is an amazing thing, we can look bigger than we are just by having a nice web store. Fact is, we ARE a mom and pop shop. It's just Joanne and I, no one else. We do a lot of stuff for two people though.

We're probably going to have to hire some "gopher" help at some point, as we're working WAY too much trying to keep up with everything and our life has no balance at all. But I've been very hesitant to take that step.

Before we started running A.S.B., I was Director of Mechanical and Support Engineering at Qualcomm and Ericsson (who bought our division). In that role, I had several managers and a bunch of employees reporting to me, and for the most part, I disliked all aspects of employee management, especially the hiring/firing/review stuff. So I swore that A.S.B. would just be our biz, and not grow it too much and turn my job into everything I didn't like about my previous career.

But the reality is that Buell sells 10,000 more motorcycles each year, and if just 5% of those new customers find their way to us, at some point, just the two of us won't be able to keep up, and we'll have to hire. The challenge will be keeping it a company that folks will still write about like the stuff like in this thread.

Thanks All,
Al

so our experience may change, hopefully by then none of us know of anyone else. More realistically though, my positive experiences will be remembered for some time so you will still get the positive word of mouth from me, even if i catch a different fellow on the phone now and again.

As far as the title goes, it wasnt intended to make it so hard, but i think it makes it an unusually entertaining and rewarding thread to be a part of. hopefully the mods dont change it.

... and again Al, whenever the remap key can come around i've got a xb with a D&D on it that would like a remap... .. .. sooo yea

Every time I have called American Sport Bike, they have always been very helpful....even the times when i didnt need to purchase anything and just looking for help from AL

Thanks American Sport Bike for continuing to set the standard on what customer service should be.

Al-
small data point for your above comment about 100 people out of 10000 making it to you. Three newer buells have shown up where I work, along with the two(well one now) that a guy I bought a bike from has(d) that makes five buells(Thanks Mark!). All five have A S B stickers on them...

Looks like you may have to hire someone: )

And it still will be, Daniel, as long as you can reach me. The biggest problem is getting through to me when someone else doesn't already have my ear. Fact is, I still spend a lot of time on the phone with customers, and Joanne has to give me the stink eye sometimes to get me to wrap it up because she has to field three or four calls while "chatty cathy" (me) keeps babbling on about AFV setting algorithms or whatever.

As soon as I pay some smart IT/database programmers to integrate our ordering and billing systems, I'll get a lot more time for chatting and working on things. Right now, web orders are manually transposed (cut/pasted) into the billing/shipping systems and it's KILLING me.

Great service is an under statement... I needed a set of Lyndall's (well, didn't NEED, but my stock pads are prety much shot in 5000 miles) and I WANTED the Lyndalls. Called up American Sport Bike, got the pads, in the mail and I'll have them before I leave for Deals Gap on Saturday morning. Should give me enough time to bed them in on Friday night....

Awesome... I will be ordering from them again!

Al is a great person! He spent about 45 mins. on the phone with me today talking about exhausts and AFV. He is a genius and very unbiased. He diddn't try to sell me anything (even though I was calling to buy an exhaust) He gave me great facts and great advice. The fact that Al is a "chatty cathy" as he stated above is the exact reason I will be a loyal customer for years to come. American Sport Bike is what all shops should be like.

Hey Al, I don't know about the smart part but I've been a database administrator for over 15 years now and have done plenty of systems integration work.

I don't know what kind of systems you've got set up but I might be able to help out. I'd do it for nothing - well, maybe for a couple farkles for the Uly...

Shoot me a PM if you want to talk about it.

Joanne is the greatest but Al sucks!
Most businesses I talk to I end up pleading for someone to call me back so I can get the information I need to order something. But no, not Al, he actually talks to me and gives other suggestions of things that I will need that cost me more money. Imagine if everyone ran their shop like that.

Great job Al!
