Hello all,

I just bought a brand new 2007 XB12R, and love it! I was out doing some hard riding on some very technical twisties, and noticed that everything seemed to be VERY hard work, and didn't feel quite right. I've read that the bike is very responsive to suspension settings, and since I'm pretty light, I thought I'd adjust them according to the owner's manual. When I was adjusting the front rebound, I turned the screws all the way to the right as per the manual's instructions. How hard/far should I turn them? All of the other adjustments stopped relatively easily, but these screws felt like the stopped, but then would turn a half revolution more if I forced the issue. Since the adjustments are pretty precise, being a half turn off would make a big difference. Should I turn them till they're REALLY tight , or adjust from the position where the felt like they wanted to stop? Anyone else had this problem?

Don't force them! Just turn them until you feel them bottom out. They only need a light touch to adjust.

Ducxl: I have a 07 12R with almost 8K miles already... haven't detected any problems yet with my headlights. I do run with both on all the time...

Yes Tdiddy we are if that is what it takes for Buell to fix it...it is a serious safety issue..And has been since the bikes have been made. Not just the lower faring burning/melting etc..

Congrats on your new bike! Do NOT force the suspension adjusters, LIGHTLY bottom them out(I stop at the first sign of resistance). Buells are a LOT of fun, but you might want to start saving your dimes for the inevitable "h.lamp conversion".

Just pull it apart and wipe the reflector with some tissue...then get back to us.

Thanks, when I start noticing a problem, I'll take it to the dealer (Liberty Harley, Rahway) and they will fix it (at least I hope so!) - isn't this an warranty issue then?.

Thanks for all the replies! I did force the adjusters the first time (which is how I discovered I could force it), can that damage anything?

I just took the bike out for the first time since the adjustments. I didn't do any serious corners, but it did have a more neutral feel to it. I also felt more play in the front and rear. Not "bouncy", but there was definitely more travel on both ends. I got more feel from the front end, but it also dives more on the brakes. I've ridden a LOT of different bikes, and this doesn't feel like ANY of them, so it's hard to compare. Different is lots of fun, though. :-) I'm taking it to a track day at Mid-Ohio next month, so I'll be able to really tell then!

Now I'm going to look at some threads and check out this headlight issue?! I hadn't heard anything about it...

Robert,
Sounds like you are on the right track to get the suspension set right for you.

You say it's much better, but not quite to your liking. It's time for some "fine tuning" on your part. Not really much we can say about what feels right for you at this point.

I recommend making small adjustments, one at a time. Write down what you adjusted, and how the bike reacted, so if you go the wrong way, you can put it back easily.
