i just bought a select seat and my girlfriend is complaining about that 1" strap that goes perpendicular to the seat. Ive noticed a few members have removed this strap as this will be this the solution for her, but anyway what does purpose does it serve?

IIRC: DOT requires a passenger grab strap to legally carry a passenger.

Also, it is handy when you have to remove the seat.

Yeah, the DOT wants to encourage poor passenger habits.

They (pillion riders)are supposed to hang on to the rider, not the bike!

More regulations brought to you by those that have never ridden a motorcycle.

FYI I've seen the TT Seat that has no strap and a cool "No riders" Logo on it : )

The saddle does not require a passenger grab strap if the motorcycle itself is equipped with grab rails for the passenger.

It's also good for tucking the gloves under so they don't fall off the seat when you run into the store for a soda or stop at a gas station to fill the frame.
