Apparently they loose off a tad with a bit of use. You could try a sprung tensioner if it makes you feel better, I think some of the sponsors of this site sell them. Thats a feature. The placement of the idler pulley is such that the tension on the belt does not change as a result of suspension travel. I use the spring loaded tensioner that I got from Trojan. Otherwise you may burn out the drive gear bearing, which necessitates a rebuild. Pup has had this problem multiple times with a bike that was not crashed. I needed a rebuild due to tight belts, but I had a minor lowside that probably contributed. It may have also been caused by water in the oil, tough to know for sure, but just be careful.
