Is there a difference between the 9 & 12 shocks? Also, what is the difference between the yellow and blue springs and are they specific to the 9 & 12 models; I do understand they probably have different capacities.

Has there been any upgrades since 03 on the Xb shocks?

I am adding a Xb swingarm to the X1 and looking for the best match.

I don't believe there is any diff. between 9 and 12.
The yellow spring is for the scg. low models. Blue is for regular height models.

Yellow spring = "low" or "cg" suspension. Blue = standard height for 9 and 12.

The 03's and (I believe) all "low/cg" models use 41mm forks. Current regular height models use 43mm forks. Not sure when the change was made, but if I had to guess, I'd say the 04' 12 had 43mm but the 9 didn't get them until the CityX came out. Just a guess, tho.

No changes on the rear I don't believe

If you are going to all the trouble to fit an XB swing arm to an X1, you might want to think about upgrading the shock, which is a serviceable, but not outstanding unit.

The first thing that can be done is upgrade the spring to the Buell competition spring, which is red I believe, and revalve the shock to suit. This can be done for about $200. Trackside Engineering and other suspension specialists can handle this job.

The second step would be upgrading to an Ohlins, Wilbers, Penske, or other aftermarket shocks.

These are a lot more expensive, in the $1000 range, but they offer many upgraded features including adjustable ride height. I do not know how the shock would fit on a tuber, but having an adjustable ride height could come in very handy.

I added a Ohlins to my XB12 SR with a Hal's chain conversion, and I was able to convince myself that it was worth the cost. This shock allowed me to adjust sag and ride height independently. Even with the red spring, I had not be able to set up the bike properly for my weight, (235# in gear).
