im contemplating on doing this mod, but what should i gain, performance-wise, from doing it, hp gain?
do i have to take it to the dealer to have them remap it?

i currently have the race kit installed w/ the stock 04 inner airbox cover

ive been doing searches but i see a lot of intake noise increase, but not many threads on performance increase

i also just found the dyno on this mod for an xb9 and it seems to show a decrease across the whole band

Dunno what you mean by "mod" (cutting?), but changing out the airbox on my '03 9R was certainly worth doing.

Smoothed out the low end off of idle. Felt less like it was lugging
(not that it ever was - that's just the best comparison I can think of)

It'll only set you back $35

incresed noise = incresed performance... at least it would seem like you have more power

It depends on your bike. You will see small increases but look at the overall
shapes of the HP and torque curves. It should help your midrange if you are
running the race ecm and race pipe (or other aftermarket exhaust.

The dyno chart you referenced was using a stock muffler with race ecm, and k&N.
Without the ability to flow more volume through the exhaust there is no need for
more intake volume. It's about building a system that works together, not individual
components. Also note that they did not run air:fuel on those runs, and that is
CRITICAL data when tuning a motor.

Whats the difference in the two. Other then its got open areas's which you can do to a 04. The area over the throttle body is the same.

the number and location of holes in the lid is the only difference between the 04 and 07 lid.
The 04 had the hole through the frame instead of pulling air through the lid.
