well.. im starting to think im cursed on a motorbike.i laid down my bike again yesterday for the 3rd time in 2 yrs but only once due to stupiditity. So yesterdays story goes as.. I was driving donwn the road after leaving my sweethearts place. while im driving i decided to follow another vehichle wich i do quite often as i have the tendency to speed a little and i follow other vehicles it makes me keep my speed down. So i decided i want to take the highway home so i pull of to a left hand intersection merge lane and stop at the trafic light. Light turns green, i turn the corner, straighten up and start to accalerate. just as i shift into 2nd gear i cross over the other lanes of trafic the bike gets this crazy tank slapin wobble over the grooves in the road. and then bam im on the road roling in circle watching as the bike slides away sprking and scraping. man oh man. the bike isnt in to bad shape and neither am i. i little skin missin of my arm and a sore left side from hittin the ground. so why is it that every time i go out and stunt i come home perfectly safe and unscathed and when i drive all nice and follow rules i crash and burn. any ways that my tale of yesterdays woe. so i was wondering if anyone would happen to have extra laying around,black "R" tail plastic, l/h oil cooler plastic and air scoop, l/h side passenger pegs and bracket and a shifter arm oh yea and an air box cover. what i cant buy from fellow badwebbers ill have to pic up at harley. thanks all. | ||

Shaggy, sorry to hear about the mishap. I have a black R tail sitting in my garage. It has some minor scratches in it (from grass, of all things!)...they could probably be polished out pretty easily, I just had the insurance company buy a new one when I went down a couple years ago. Glad your o.k. If the road surface was to blame and you can prove it, (use a ruler and a camera) the state may pay for damages. A friend of mine got the exhaust ripped out from his Mustang one evening. He took pics of the manhole that was sticking up to high and the state payed for it. That was in Maryland, good luck. | ||

A manhole sticking up too high in downtown Atlanta trashed a header and ripped half the dual exhaust off my Camaro. It must have been bad karma from all the orange traffic cones I stole. I'd keep them in the trunk and pull them out everytime I left a parking spot I wanted to come back too. Parking is a mofo in Atlanta... | ||

That was in Maryland, good luck. Wow, I find that hard to believe. I know in Baltimore City, which is located within Maryland, they won't cover any damages caused by potholes, sinkholes or asteroid holes  | ||

Damn 3 wrecks in 2 years?!?! And I hate to say this but maybe a motorcycle safety coarse wouldn't be a bad idea. I had to take one to get my license as I was not an adult when I obtained my motorcycle license and it was very informational about dealing with traffic and day to day road obstacles. And the whole four20 in your name makes me think maybe your reaction times have been permanently damaged? Or the some hair got in your eyes from the Shaggy part?  Of coarse the second paragraph is just joking around, but the safety class might not be a bad idea. Would hate to see your insurance rates if you claimed all 3 accidents. | ||

Don't feel bad! I got ran off the road not once but twice in March on my Uly. Luckly no real damage. Just get back up and keep riding. | ||

Isn't the Uly made for off-road? Maybe he just wanted to broaden your horizons?  Seriously, that sucks. I get cars moving over on me all the damn time. Sure would be nice if auto drivers were educated about bikes! | ||

Tire pressure, I'm learning the hard way how critical it is on my 9R. Got a slow leaker on the back, and I can feel it in the corners when it gets a little low. The bike feels like it's sliding around back there. I'm still new to this "sport bike" thing, so I'm still learning how critical all the little stuff is to handling. | ||

Tire pressure, I'm learning the hard way how critical it is on my 9R For sure...1 or 2 lbs of tire pressure can adversely affect the handling of a sportbike. Also, 1 or 2 clicks of rear preload can dramatically change the handling on an XB. Too much rear preload (or not enough front preload) will make the steering too sensitive. It will make the front end feel unstable or 'twitchy' and can lead to a wobble or tank slapper. I wonder if this contributed to Shaggy's situation. | ||

thanks for all the responces.. really appreciate it. as for the play on words in my name.. i actually even refuse to ride the bike even if iv had one beer or anything eles .. i will not ride in any impaired condition. thank you for your accusation though.. as for the saftey riders course. yes its an excellent course i know many people that have taken it and alredy found that i already know everthing they teach. Iv been on 2 wheels since i was 5 yrs old, thats 22yrs of riding on 2 wheels. this was just a mishap that just happened. thanks again for all the support. this place is the best. | ||

Dude, You're going to get accused of being a stoner with a name like Shaggy 420. I'm inclined to think you're high right now. As for the rider training class. Take it. I've only been riding longer than you've been alive and I still take the advanced class periodically. Those white lines painted on the road can be slicker'n whale shit. If you banged second while on top of one, whammo...Worse if it's wet. Watch out for man hole covers too...Those are like polished ice to a cold back tire. | ||

yes its an excellent course i know many people that have taken it and alredy found that i already know everthing they teach. trust me. i'm about your age, a little younger, actually. been ridin' the same amount of time. my dad took the MSF course at 50 years old after ridin' since he was 10. he learned somethin' there. and he's been ridin' 45 years now and has dropped it fewer times than you have. "what's that stingin' in yo' side...it's pride. f*ckin' withcha." -Sam L.  seriously though. it does lower yer insurance by 10%. it's worth is just for that. And i don't mean to bust yer chops, but i've seen too many of my boys end up in the hospital after sayin' the same kinds of things. Tough love, man. that's all. | ||

3 times in 2 years is more than just a mishap, and you can't know everything about defensive motorcycle driving if you are going down in traffic without someone hitting you. | ||

"i already know everthing they teach" One of the most common misconceptions out there especially from the "i've been riding longer than you've been alive" crowd. Your current incident sounds more set-up related, but the way you handled it might have been different with a new perspective on things. Take it for the discount, possibly learn something new from it and keep it to yourself out of pride, maybe you'll have less than 3 incidents in 2 years. |
