Getting ready for new tires, loved my Pilot powers. But I live in L.A.(lower Alabama)so there aren't many curves and I'm looking for a little more mileage. When I do find curvy roads I do ride hard, so the pilot roads aren't an option. Wondering how guys are doing with the CT's. Yes, I did do a search, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks

Well the pilot roads should be an option because they are good tires. Don't knock em if you haven't tried them.

Yea, Pilot Roads definitely stick well enough to drag hard parts on a tuber going through the Dragon.

You might consider the Continental Road Attacks. One review I read said they stick like Pilot Powers and wear like Pilot Roads. Several XB riders here run them.

+1 for the Conti RoadAttacks. I've got them on my S1 and they have not let me down yet. Stick great and hardly look used at 2500 miles.

Friend of mine has Pirelli Diablo Stradas on his Monster.

Doesn't seem to slow him down one bit.

He has 6000 miles on them, and they still look pretty good.

2ct's get me about 3-4k miles rear 8-10 on the front.

regular pilot powers 4-5 rear 9 to 11 front.

I'm running the Conti Road Attacks on the Uly - a little over 7000 miles on them. I've been happy with the traction but I commute almost every day with most of it slab so I've got a nice flat donut down the center of the rear tire. I'm thinking it's going to be dead by 9000.

I'm considering the Avon Storms for my next set.

Ran Pilot Powers for almost 4k miles, for 2 sets, switched to Pilot Roads and never looked back. Got 9k miles out of the 1st set and so far almost 3k out of the 2nd set. Never had a no stick issue and I live where there aren't any straight roads.

I'm assuming that you're referring to the Pilot Power 2CT, correct?

Far as I know, the only difference between the standard Pilot Power and the 2CT is softer rubber at the edges of the tread. The rest of the tire is the same. For straightline riding, they'll wear identically. For hard cornering, the 2CT'll deteriorate faster.

+2 for the Conti Road Attacks. I just got them last year before the weather turned bad up here in the NW, but so far they are great tires. One thing I have noticed about them is they communicate very well. It seems like I feel every little bump and rock the tire goes over. Personally I like this but some people don’t.

I love this site. Thanks for all the info. I just got a great deal on 2ct's. So i guess I'm stuck with them now. I will keep the contis in mind for my next purchase. Again, thanks for all the input.

Jason,

Another option that i haven't heard much about on here are the pirelli strada's. My bike had them on there when i bought it and i have been very impressed. They now have over 6000 miles and still have at least half tread left. And i do ride hard enough to cover the whole tire with my body hanging off the bike. They feel really stable and the only gripe i have is they take a little longer to heat up than my buddies who run pilots but they are on their 2nd and 3rd sets so i guess i can live with that.

I get about 5k out of a 2CT rear and 7k from the front. They stay in pretty good shape throughout

Sport Touring Tires have come a long way in recent years. At street operating temps, modern ST tires have plenty of grip for aggressive cornering.

Metz Z6, Diablo Strada, Avon Storm ST, & Conti Road Attack are all very good choices.

Personally, I don't care for the Pilot Road (I believe Mich is going to discontinue), I think they are down on grip from the best ST tires. The Pilot Road 2, however, is a dual compound tire that looks VERY promising.

I ride a tuber, so I can't speak for your XB, but I LOVE my new Avon Storms, over 1,000 miles, still look just scrubbed in, toe scrapping with rearsets. I live on Hwy 1 North of S.F.

I will also be looking for new tires soon...
I ride 99% on the road but do a couple of trackdays a year, do you think road tires would be up to the job on the track? I am no experienced rider so my cornering speeds are rather on the low side, and I find the wear rate of the Michelin Power/Sport too high for my liking (read: wallet... ).

Cheers,

Olivier
