I went out tonight to finish off a rear tire with a few good burnouts and slipped the clutch several times to keep the wheel turning. After 4 or 5 times the clutch wouldn't grab at all. I turned the bike off and sat a minute and was able to limp it home. I'm thinking I only overheated it since there's only 18000 km on the bike. Can someone confirm that I'm right and my clutch is not shot?

I'll bet it just needs to be adjusted. Do you have factory manual?

There is no way your clutch is overheated from a few burnouts after only 11,000 miles. I've slipped my clutch continuously for five straight minutes while practicing "extreme counter weighting".

Have your clutch adjustment and cable checked to make sure it is within spec.

I do have the manual and my next move was to check the adjustment, I didn't have time to do it when I got back from my ride. I just wanted to get the quick answer here. It kinda worried me because it suddenly went from working fine to barely working at all.

As long as your adjusting the clutch, do the ball ramp adjustment as well. It's a two minute job.

Ok, I adjusted my clutch last night and it seems to work OK now but when I took the inspection cover off the oil had a strong "burnt" smell. What does this mean? Should I change the oil right away?

Play it safe. Adjust your clutch and clutch cable than change the oil. When your finished, you can go burn up your next tire!
