I went to start my bike yesterday and it acted like the battery was low. Checked the battery and it had a full charge. The bike would spin to compression stroke and then stop. Was running fine the last time I rode it. When it finally started, it backfired one time and then started ticking pretty loud. I shut it off right away as not to harm anything. I'm under the impression that it may have jumped time. Any clues out there? The ticking is coming from the upper side of the head in front it sounds like. I don't have the manual and wonder if the bike has a belt or chain to the cam for timing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

How long was the bike sitting before you tried starting it? If it is being started coming out of storage, chances are the ticking is due to a hydraulic lifter that has not quite filled itself with oil. They can bleed down sometimes when the engine is not running and the next time the engine is run, they take a little time to refill, maybe a minute or more.

It won't hurt anything while it is ticking and refilling with oil; just let it idle until it smooths out.

That sounds like a plan, I'm going to try that now. It sat for about a month or so.
I'll let you know how it does.

Thanks a bunch.

Use Seafoam when you store it. full tank of gas and run it for a bit to get it going through, change your oil and add to new oil change. You run it to get it through the system and any condensation is taken care of by the seafoam. Works wonders.

I swear by that stuff, have actually had it un-stick rings before on my truck. Never thought about putting it in the bike. I'll do that next time for sure.
I live in the south so I ride the bike most of the time. This year I got so busy I haven't had time to ride it so it sat up for a longer period of time than normal.
Thanks for the great tip.
Have a good one and ride safe.
