Prior to a week ago, I had test ridden the XB9x, XB12s and XB12ss and had decided I was going to go with the XB12s. I really liked the styling and seat of the CityX but the torque of the bigger motor was a deal breaker for me, and the long’s relaxed steering geometry just didn't feel as good to me. Then I rode the TT. As several people have mentioned, the bike does look better in person, but what impressed me was the ride! It was exactly what I was looking for: I loved the tall (and amazingly comfortable) seat and wide bars, the torque of the 1203cc engine, and the way the little bit of extra suspension just ate up the rough spots in the pavement. It has the longer, 54 inch wheelbase, but more aggressive steering geometry than the lightning long.

So I bought one! It will be my first Buell and I am quite excited. Unfortunately I cannot pick it up until the beginning of June, so I would love to hear from others who are riding the (TT) lightning.

Congrats! I can't help you on TT impressions. It must be horrible though to have to wait until June!

There's been some earlier posts regarding rider's XB12TT impression. I searched using XB12TT as a keyword and some earlier threads pop up.

If they had the TT when I bought my bike, I would have gone that way instead. Having demo'd it. I love it, But leading the way , my Cityx is is now a year old in the current configuration. I suppose this is what a XB9STT would look like ;) Cleanest it has been in months.

Some sisters you got there, cityxslicker! Your bike ain't bad either. Actually one of the sharpest I have seen.

Doerman--Thanks for the search tip. I have already gobbled up whats been written here on badweb. There were just some posts where people mentioned just buying an XB12stt and I was wondering if any of them might post now that they have actually owned the bike.

Cheers

My hubby just got a TT today (after trading in the firebolt that broke). After he test drove it, came back with a big smile on his face. Loved the torque. Says it's gonna really bring out the buellegan in him. He's already in the garage changing the shifting to motoGP style.

We'll be putting some miles on tomorrow.

Hey im not trying to be clever here - but all the XB12 models have the exact same engine right ? so the only differences between all the models are cosmetic.
If you was in the market now for a city X or ss - what would be the point since the TT is released ?
Basically - its pretty much a smaller uly or a cityX & ss mixed. The only thing that lets it -down is the lack of colors & those side flaps, but overall - I think its going slowly push the SS & CityX out of the market. Ther seems to be trend with more off road / moto X style bikes like the KTM Superduke 990 in london at the mo & I think the TT will get very popular by next summer.

The suspension components and geometry of the TT are different then any other Buell, as is the seat height (changing riding position). So it's a lot more different bike then it appears at first glance.

I'm looking forward to a chance to ride one.

I test rode one yesterday and I loved it!! it is an amazing bike. to me it felt like a 450 dirtbike on crack. Riding position was really comfortable as well as the seat. I was a little high at stop lights (30-32" inseam) I even took it of road alittle and was great, I dont think I would jump it but maybe some small trail rides or a few miles or gravel road wouldn't scare me. I really think I will add one to the stable in the future, I am torn between the STT and the Uly. I was leaning towards the Uly for the hard bag set up,wider seat, and wind screen for long trips but maybe I will just have to Mod the TT to my liking.

There are hard bags coming from H & B for the lightnings... hold your breath and think of a bike that is 25 lbs lighter than the ULY, and an inch shorter to the deck

I know many people have complained that the TT is really much of a new model, and I understand wanting to see something truly new. I bought it precisely because it wasn't new--it is a bike that Buell has worked the bugs out over the past 4 years with a few minor changes. I love new models as much as the next guy, but prefer to not to buy them.

Again - im not sure they have changed anything on the bike internally - it is mostly cosmetic.
If you took the frame off a TT & swapped with S - it would be exactly the same - check the specs.
As far as I know - all the 12 models are exactly the same apart from different frame configurations to suit different riders.

I think it will be a while before we get a truly different Buell ..... the 9sx is def a different ride to 12 but otherwise thats it.
I've ridden a 12s / SS / Scg / 12R - all same ride different position.
The TT is not going to have that much different apart from longer suspension & extra flaps..

Moondust,

Sounds right to me. I just meant that as an 07 lightning it has been reworked over a period of 4 years.

Happy riding!

CITYXSLICKER, who makes those bags you posted? Do they have a web site?

Hepco & Becker, they are the ones that make the bags for the ULY, and the BMW GS's . They are too new for pricing yet, but they should be up on the H&B sight by now, they are called Juniors 30 or 40 liter bags http://www.hepco-becker.de/_eng/frameset.php
