I know that HP in the XB 12's vary but are the 06 and 07 model less?? I read something stating they do.

I don't think the engine changed.
The inner air box did but that's all I think.
What did you read?

According to Sportrider the 03 12R had 99hp and the 06 12 had 90hp.

There was no '03 12R actually. Also, I believe Sportrider changed dynos. We see differences in dynos much larger than differences in engines. There were a couple of horsepower lost by the quieter gearbox, and a couple horsepower gained back with the open airbox. So, essentially, the answer is no.

Sorry about that guy's. I was called to the bar for a problem and couldn't get back right away, sorry about that. Not baiting anyone. Now..... from time to time I go to our sponsor sight just like all of us. Hal's is local to me and as you all know work with the factory kinda intensely with race development. Also that translate's to our bikes future so when Hal's say's something I tend to listen right?? Well I was on the sight and looking at there engine kits and read at the bottom of the page in BOLD RED lettering this about the 06 - 07 model XB's. Check this out but no detail. That made my eyebrow raise to why??

they may be refering to the updated clutch basket, the "give" in it that makes it smooth may cause a small loss in HP on the dyno...

"Ok but after they build a motor to 1450 cc's do they use the stock clutch and basket??"

I think most do actually... AFAIK the clutch is very capable of large torque figures. I think that Hals used the stock clutch on their race bikes up until the RR came out? Probably not the stock plates, but the rest was stock as I recall.

Copied and pasted from SportRider.com
In order. Model, year, issue, quarter mile, 60-80 roll on, 80-100 roll on, top speed(na)

S3T Thunderbolt ('97) 2/98 12.22 @ 109.7 5.39 8.17 n/a
XB9R Firebolt ('02) 10/02 11.84 @ 112.5 4.94 5.6 n/a
XB9R Firebolt ('06) 10/06 12.308 @ 108.2 6.52 7.12 n/a
XB12R Firebolt ('03) 12/03 11.43 @ 117.5 3.98 4.45 n/a
XB12Ss ('06) 12/05 11.76 @ 115.4 4.23 4.84 n/a

Regarding the nines, this information was gathered on a supposedly improved '06 bike. (larger and single piece throttle body, revised airbox via no snorkel and revisions with intake area(s) revised ecm, etc.) Yet on paper it is a slower bike.

Quarter mile times can and will most likely vary from rider to rider. I'd like to see their 60' times....

On the other hand, the twelves had more similar results.

Hmm 11.43 in the quarter FOR AN "03" 12r?
I'M ASSUMING THAT WAS A PRE PRODUCTION 04?
I want to see 10's dang it all. Anyone know what the fastest "Stock" 12 is?

There was no 02 Firebolt and no 03 XB12 either. I've read so many different times that who no which is correct. I do know that strapped and wheelie bars can get ya in the 10's though on a stock 12. Seen a guy last year at our local Drag strip do it and he was consistent and not really a light guy either.

They are probably talking about early production Firebolts. My model year 2003 XB9R was built in 2002. Says so on the ID plate.

General rule of thumb is usually bikes manufactured June or after in a given year is designated a following year's model.

( hey, it made sense when I was thinking it!)

Production date is not the same as model year.

As anony advised, the new smoother tranny is what consumes the additional bit of parasitically lost HP as reported by a chassis dyno.

Hal's most likely makes note of this as they are talking about the performance of bikes that are fitted with high performance racing intakes. Thus the old versus new improved airbox scenario doesn't come into play for them, but the new '06 gearbox does.
